Can't believe the madness of going ahead with the Sydney Test

You have TWO clusters and you want to go ahead with a game of cricket

Wasn't someone trying to convince me Gladys wasn't a moron

The moron has spoken ...again

I think the Test should go ahead. It's pretty close to panic stations now but I'd still go ahead with it.

I know that Qld premier isn't a moron in Queensland but that is because Queensland is full of them.

This morning they limited the number of visitors for NYE to 5 per household, cancelling lots of people's NYE plans in the process yet let's allow the cricket to go ahead?

Crowds at the cricket can be monitored easier than in people’s homes I guess

Probably the most panic in Wollongong since it all started...police choppers everywhere

There was lines around the corner at warilla and the gong . I think because of the high Greek population down here , and the fact the lady who was positive went to like 2churches and also Wollongong central and Figtree during the Chrissy build up. Basically she could have infected the whole of the Illawarra just by being at those 4 places , considering the amount of traffic .

Around figtree just past west Wollongong too...a simple 5 minute commute took me about 50 minutes

I heard a 2nd positive case? but not completely sure

2 New cases in the gong apparently, so that suggests 3 in total.

I'm okay with this as well. Clearly we could have problems and this time of year is tough. The thing with the cricket is that you just have to socially distance people and it is outdoors.

If anything I'd be locking down further but I think the SCG is a big ground which is outdoors and we can minimize the number of people attending.

You have to act but at the same time not panic too much.

You have a point though in that if the cricket isn't played in Sydney I'd be fine with it as well.

Major outbreak in Concord , enjoy NYE all as I feel a total lock down is not far away .
The NSW government are the ones to blame they opened up to much to quick ... again it is the $$$ that call the shots with big business pressures pre Xmas to open up . And of course the non Mandating of masks obviously the brain dead community members not being responsible does not help .

Outbreak is at Croydon which is about 4Km -5Km from Concord

I have been a fan of NSW management of COVID so far and I am not a lockdown kinda guy but Im wondering if Gladys and her advisors havent missed a trick here.

With a predictable spike (18) in cases a few days after Christmas gatherings if a lockdown is ever necessary, now is the most painless time to do it, with most businesses closed for another 6 days anyway.

Mind you Gladys might be banking on the Xmas shutdown doing the job of a lockdown anyway.

All in all numbers are not massive, not growing exponentially.

Almost a carbon copy of the Melbourne outbreak ...even down to being a Greek woman ....and before any Greeks take aim ...my Mrs is Greek and I love the Greeks

Testing numbers are dropping. There are clusters popping up that cannot be traced back to the northern beaches, no-one has any idea what the true numbers are.

It's more so people coming into close contact by travelling to the game and using the amenities than socially distancing once outside. Not to mention the geographical distance people have travelled to attend. Blows my mind we are ok to take that risk but take a harsher stance on how many visitors you're allowed at your household.

It's a risk but I don't think people are getting it that regularly via contact like you are stating here.

At this point I'd be extremely surprised to see any kind of lockdown. As you point out, now would be the best time to do it.

The premier was seemingly ok with boxing day sales, cricket and fireworks going ahead.

I suspect she'd be looking down the barrel of a party room spill if she went too aggressive.

It looks like they're hoping to limp through to vaccine rollout.

If this is true, Sydney could easily be on the cusp of a major problem:

***However, speaking to ABC, physician and broadcaster Dr Norman Swan said we likely undiagnosed the virus by “at least a factor of three” and that the state’s virus figures could be closer to 450 to 500 cases.***

I expect the number of people attending to be manageable. I'm significantly more worried about people congregating in houses. That type of contact seems to lead to lots of infections. People get together and hug and kiss etc.

I'd have no problems if they stopped the cricket but I'm really concerned about NYE gatherings. I think the virus has grown as well because people have been celebrating together more around Christmas. I think (I can't prove it) that this is also pushing the mass of infections overseas.

Anyway so far we have to trust NSW health to deal with this as well as take some personal responsibility. I hate wearing a mask but I went to the shops today and wore a mask. Heaps of people weren't wearing them.
