Can't stop Australian citizens returning home. Irrespective as to why they are overseas and taken so long to return, I am uncomfortable with stopping Australian passport holders from coming home.

Friends in Vic now call their Premier 'Dan the lock down man'.

But I agree reform to what constitutes overseas travellers needs to be undertaken. Australian citizens should be able to return but even those returning home for a holiday before returning to their country of work should go to the back of the queue with all others. If Dan refuses to undertake quarantine, what happens to Vic residents?

Like most, they quarantine in NSW and then simply cross the border home. NSW doing the heavy lifting again.

Often the return home is not a simple task...

My niece is in the UK and has 8 flights canceled over a 5 month period..She can't afford the 35K+ asking rate for a first class flight offered..so she has to wait..esp since Emirates stpped flights

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for the Federal to do a massive push with chartered flights from central hubs and just get it done

What about dual citizens, or people that have not been in the country for the last 20 years? People that studied here and likely still have debts but have moved overseas, earned income and paid taxes overseas and not contributed anything to this country?

When things get tough there is a sense of entitlement in that they should be repatriated, should be assisted in getting here, quarantine facilities (and meals etc.) should be of a standard that they approve on, and the location should be convenient for them.

Then again when you let planeloads of overseas tennis players and entourage in for no good reason other than a commercial event (that no-one can no go to), it is hard to argue for tighter restrictions on entry.

At least those people locked in their homes for 5 days (at least) in Victoria can take solace in the fact that they are able to watch the tennis on TV all day.

Rant over, must be the wrong side of bed this morning.

Chairman Dan is absolutely unbelievable.

Has the guy got no shame, can he put his foot any further in his mouth.

The clown is there at the National Cabinet meeting spruiking on about how Victoria has the highest Hotel Quarantine standards in the country, telling other premiers that they should do all these wonderful things that they have introduced into Victoria.

The look on his face would have been priceless when he is told that everyone else has been doing those things for nearly 12 months, what parallel universe is he living in?

I mean, the clowns have only just gone from a slate and a piece of chalk with their contact tracing and finally discovered QR codes.

Next minute he's out there locking down the whole state again, destroying businesses, mental health and peoples lives in general, telling everyone that this UK strain is moving so fast that it is challenging the status etc, etc.

Funny how it moves so fast but only seems to do so in Victoria, as a matter of fact it is the only thing moving in Victoria at the moment.

How can anyone defend this moron after the lies that he has told, with the latest ones emerging about what may really be the true story about the nebulizer that was used in the quarantine hotel.

They're trying to impeach Donald Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon for a record second time and everyone may have their own opinions on whether that should or shouldn't happen, but what should happen to this fool that has so far killed something like 800 Victorians?

If you're fair dinkum outraged about deaths, instead of using them as a political football, have a read of the Royal Commission into Aged Care findings.

You'll see pretty quickly that the federal government have a hell of a lot to answer for.

Yeah, enough of this state versus state, mate versus mate crap!, with the words of some of today's airport arrivals to Melbourne lockdowns in the background as I type. Such as, "it's okay", "we all have to do our bit to stop the spread" and "we're all in this together" being seemingly appropriate.

The FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is responsible for our border and quarantine. The failure of our prime minister to hold the hose is the problem and to paraphrase similarly, "we control who comes here and under what circumstances". These are not "matters for the states", rather ones that should be carried out at commonwealth level, whether arriving on a cruise ship or plane and either human, plant or animals.

Also, the incumbent national government is responsible for nearly every policy step leading to the current state of private aged care facilities over the past couple of decades or so and thus the life of every single Australian lost in them due to the pandemic. Which at 75% of the Covid total in the country, it is the worst in the world. Not one life was lost in the state managed facilities.

First stop Christmas Island .

Unfortunately there are significant logistical challenges to overcome including that the nearest major hospital is 2600km away in Perth. There is a disused resort on the island which I'm sure the owners would like used but like most in Australia, I'm not sure Christmas Islanders would welcome returning Australians from Covid infested regions.

Just add those findings to all the other findings that Scammo and his cronies avoid. He has a very dominant tame media(Murdoch) that dont ask the difficult questions and he is defunding the media that does.

   Very well said. Did You see the bit about the Murdoch dynasty on Our A.B.C. a couple of nights ago? Very frightening how much power these Mongrels have.

Somewhere else then ..
They shouldn’t be housed in major cities upon there return .
So now there’s up to 1500 Queenslanders who have to be tracked down who have recently been to Victoria.
Piss poor governance at its best

I feel it is really disgusting that Our Feds haven't done a **MUCH BETTER** job in getting Our citizens home, at least on an 'at needs' priority basis, as long as they are Covid tested and found not to have the virus prior to their departure.
But do we/have we had the appropriate quarantine capacity to handle a 'massive push'?

Havent you just answered yourself?

The "Feds" determine how many people can enter the country per day/week and this is based on capacity to house for quarantine. With Victoria now closing quarantine, this number will be reduced and the flow will be reduced again.

I think you might have it all wrong if you think that I am politically motivated in all this, and as a matter of fact the only football that I am interested in is the football that the Wests Tigers play, which is the main reason that I am on this forum.

The reason for my comments about Chairman Dan is that is what has been in the news the last couple of days and I just cannot believe what an unabashed liar this bloke is and how he is constantly throwing people under the bus and refuses to take any responsibilities for things that have happened under his watch.

The fact of the matter is that he has bungled everything in his state with regards to the control of Covid-19.

I'll be surprised if this current 5 day lock down is only 5 days and that it is the last one that Victorian will have to endure.

Agree with you on the situation in aged care where something like three quarters of deaths have occurred and the fact that the Federal Government is responsible for aged care funding, but as previously stated, I was responding to the most recent Covid-19 developments in Victoria.

I even agreed with @bathursttiger1 when he mentioned that the only reason a dysfunctional government like Dan's was in power was because of an even worse opposition, or words to that effect.

I previously mentioned that they were trying to impeach Donald Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon for an unprecedented second time and asked the question of what people thought should be done to Dan Andrews for his failings and this was because what I was writing about was restricted to him at the time but could quite easily be expanded to include any politician that fails their constituents.

Having said that I would say that the former Aged Care Minister, Richard Colbeck would most likely fit into that category.

I’m very naive about all this, but my question is why are we continuing to bring people here from overseas in the first place? With this so called new, more virulent strain emerging why can’t everyone just bloody well stay where they are for now! At least until the vaccines are rolled out and hopefully things might actually settle down.

And if we have to bring them back here for whatever reason, why are the authorities at the other end not checking and testing people rigorously before allowing them to board a plane? It’s all very well to blame our quarantine measures at this end (and yes they haven’t been great at times either), but I think it’s actually the quarantine measures at the other end that is letting us down more often than not. Stop accepting people from overseas period! Expats or not.

Australia is in a good position with Covid compared to much of the world, yet we’re still intent on bringing the rest of the world to our shores during this pandemic and threatening the safety of the country in the process - it’s bloody madness.

SHUT THE OS BORDERS! SPUD FOR PM ??

Seems a bit unfair to lock Aussies out of their own country.

You'd also be shutting down international imports/exports which would be economically devastating.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Do you really want Australia ending up in the same position as Europe and the US with this thing? Because that is what will happen if we keep inviting people from the Covid riddled world onto our shores.

I know they are primarily Aussies trying to get home, but as someone posted above, they have had 12 months to get back, so why is it taking them so long? I had one friend in India and one in Japan when this all first broke. Admittedly they took some time to organise getting back home, especially one of them as he contracted Glandular Fever so he was unable to fly for a couple of months. However, both were back home here by June 2020, despite the delays.

As for the imports, we are a country rich in farming and natural resources right across the land - time to start utilising them more completely instead of selling out to the highest overseas bidder and have them import inferior quality goods and services into our country. We can still export ?

It took over 4 months for our daughter to get back home in 2019 and even then we had to pay for her to get upgraded to Business class and even with a Business class ticket she was bumped 3 times, so not all the fault lies with the passengers.
