Well, NSW numbers are up again today and it's the same old spiel from Gladys...The lockdown hasn't worked, in so far as she could have, and should have gone harder with it.

I'll be surprised if she relaxes any restrictions next month.

You think we're looking at a long lockdown?

My sister in law has a wedding booked for next month.
Wonder how that'll go...

Hunter/Newcastle entered a 7 snap lockdown.
I have no doubts it will be extended.

I just can't see us getting out of this Demps. Maybe it's just my frustration at the whole thing with the way it's playing out, but it's clear people who have the virus either aren't aware, or don't care because they are still out in the community and it's continuing to spread, which means resources will be spread thinner, reducing their effectiveness.

100%

Rough times ahead.
Craving some normality.

But yeah, people need to follow the rules.

It’ll be a long off season for us footy heads

That's when I do all my bushwalking (when the cricket's not on.)

Just got back from the Falls not long ago. First time down the bottom, an absolutely beautiful spot.

What brand shoes/boots do you wear and/or recommend when bush walking @Cultured_Bogan?
I need a pair of soft easy walkin but supportive and protective shoes/boots, but cant afford to pay big $$$.

Sorry mate I missed this.

I wear comfortable sneakers because I have dancers feet. I've done all the walks in the mountains that I have in just sneakers.

I have only worn ASICS for the last 12 years. They can cop a flogging and are well made.

Asics are def the go.
Comfy.
And they make some proper hiking type shoes.

Can range anywhere from $99+.
Saw some good deals on catch of the day.

Did they go and get medical advice ? My dad is a retired doctor. He has so many health problems. He got vaccinated straight away with the AZ. I'm worried dad will die from COVID despite being vaccinated. It's going to happen at some point. Old people die of the flu all the time.

There were probably risk averse because I cannot believe any medical doctor would not recommend getting vaccinated. It's such a cut and dry case.

I get there will be some people who can't for some reason but I think that will such a tiny minority. There will be people who don't develop antibodies from the vaccines as well.

Please speak to a doctor though.

This shouldn't be a political debate. In NSW 47.33% are fully vacccinated above the age of 70. The AZ vaccine has been available for ages. It is much safer to take the AZ vaccine than not take it especially in that age category. There are also a tonne of vaccines available. Everyone 70+ should be fully vaccinated by now.

You have to ask the question why didn't that guy take the AZ vaccine ?

I've posted this in the other thread. It's the same type of stuff we've seen on here:-

1. Social media and vaccine hesitancy
2. The 0 death COVID policy

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/public-health-leaders-regret-failure-to-rebuke-anti-vaxxers-zero-covid-advocates-20210806-p58gmf.html

This is an interesting article.

>Dr Coatsworth said he regretted underestimating the influence of zero-COVID advocates in the academy, whose commentary has shaped the discourse on COVID-19 management in Australia.
>
>There’s a very strong network in Australian academia that is pro COVID-zero,” he said. “There’s some very influential policy people, particularly down in Victoria, who have that particular view.
>
>Extreme zero-COVID views look good, but they can have a fair few negative consequences that are difficult to count.

And:-

>“I think nobody really understood how really problematic information that’s been circulating on social media – unchecked and unchallenged – has been for confidence in vaccines generally, and in AstraZeneca in particular,” Dr Halton told The Sun-Herald and The Sunday Age.

Read this story in the herald. I actually went to school with Sittixay.

There need to be some questions asked about infection controls and general management at Liverpool hospital.

Another reason Hazzard's position is untenable.

I saw this article on the ABC today. I guess it's a bit political, but worth a read:

I'm reminded of the James Carville quote, "It's the economy, stupid".

We can only go on what he said and clearly stated. **"While my mum and I are vaccinated, he had serious health complications that prevented him from being vaccinated"** and that his father wasn't vaccine hesitant.

There are many thousands of people that cannot accept vaccines for medical reasons and you really need to take a step down from your high horse on this issue. We need to bring people along rather than castigation.

The main ATAGI advice remains Pfizer for 16 and above (everyone), with AZ for over 60's and everybody eligible to get a Learner's Permit should have the choice. Political failure led to a direction for under 60's to consider AZ because of the constraints with Pfizer availability, meaning most people still don't have that choice available to them.

The risk of AZ to people under 60 has been greatly overplayed.

What a funny old world we live in. The anti vaccination brigade won't put that stuff in their body, some are scared at long lasting effects, which i understand, but those beliefs are suddenly washed away with $300. I would have thought most people would want to live and be healthy as opposed to the alternative rather than have to bribe the community. Like i said, funny old world.

I have an uncle that smokes 1.5 packs of cigarettes a day and drinks a bottle of scotch a week and tells us he will not get vaccinated as he will not put that into his body .. go figure.

That's about what I do just to get me through a Wests Tiger game.

All the vaccines in the world will not alter the behaviour of individuals. Whether it is not going to work when ill, not attending parties or family gatherings or doing the basics such as washing hands, wearing a face mark and keeping your distance, behaviour needs to change. If it doesn't re-opening at 70% could be catastrophic.

Who knows. I think 70% of people fully vaccinated might mean herd immunity. People will die but hopefully it won't be that bad.

I think we will get to 50% fully vaccinated and restrictions will be eased.

I even think it will be less than that. They are stating tradies in the affected LGA's will be able to go to work if fully vaccinated.

I don't know if we will ever get to 80% fully vaccinated.

Pretty well spells out the results of Covid choices which many saw as obvious and highlights the cost of political refusal to admit wrrrrong.

The $300 vaccine incentive payment suggestion during the week and the attacks on it are just another example of money that would be extremely well spent lost. Bipartisanship would be almost certain had it come from the government, but instead we saw a bully at the pulpit and wasted opportunity.

I look at the experience with Delta in the Eastern Suburbs and the outbreak appears contained. Although it was a different variant, the large outbreak in the Northern Beaches was also contained. I do have my private thoughts on the reasons why.
