I've just finished having a heart to heart with my eldest son about his hesitancy to receive a vaccination. His girlfriend is against vaccination and feeds him her views. I said to him he should respect his girlfriend's views and in return she should respect his. He will be vaccinated tomorrow and I will go with him just to give him moral support.

His cousin is a nurse manager (matron) at a hospital and she had a good chat to him last night about it.

Lovely.

Life is a risk my brothers.
If we do nothing, we are nothing !!

Wow....I cant wait for my first shot in two weeks....:scream:

5 weeks and you can have a picnic with up to five members of your fully vaccinated household.

So the one member who isnt vaccinated has to be segregated from their family function because thats what the police state expects....so much for peoples free choice....and Im not an anti vaxxer...just a person who thinks a person in this country has freedom of choice....

I think this is big news.

Here is the thing I don't like the police state idea but the reality is anyone who doesn't take a vaccine for COVID is a significant burden on the rest of society.

The freedom of choice issue isn't really relevant. It's the same as someone who drinks and drives or so many other choices.

My opinion was they wanted 80%+ and then they could avoid this issue but I think the idea is now that the unvaccinated will have to bear a cost for making a poor decision not only for themselves but for society.

I'm the same.... I don't like preferential treatment for one over the other, I've never been that way inclined and as a supervisor I'm glad my staff never are bitching about it being seen some are getting more or less work than others... It's not really my go.
This is just another rule in a long line of rules we as a society follow every day
Don't speed in the car
Get kids vaccinated for school sport etc
Don't go thru red lights
Tap on. & off on the bus
Don't take others stuff
Don't smoke inside
Don't take 30 items to the express checkout blah blah
Pay your taxes
Be a sheeple and have a TFN or CRN
Get a Medicare card
Get ID

People crying about this are pathetic imo

The world isnt binary and more than one thing can be true at once.

Im getting vaxxed and potentially will benefit from a vaccine passport, but I am concerned about the implications of vaccine passports and access, segregation of society based on free will.

Public liberties are not binary. Because we accept seat belts does not mean that we can or should accept any restriction on freedoms for the public good. Of course its a sliding scale.

I am in favour of the current lockdowns and restrictions, I dont think the government has any alternative. These lockdowns would probably have saved 800 odd lives in 2018 from influenza. Should we stay locked down to prevent deaths from ALL communicable diseases? IMO no of course not. Again to take it to an extreme, will you refuse treatment or charge extra for unvaxxed people for medical treatment? I wouldnt but I can imagine an argument for it....if so then smokers/drinkers/fat people?

My point is its not binary and thinking that people are *pathetic* for worrying about the implications of increased authoritarian control on liberties is thinking on a binary scale.

Im all for current restrictions (whilst we get vax numbers up) and will get vaxxed and would stand to benefit from a vaccine passport but I do also have concerns for restrictions of liberties and freedoms. We have willingly handed incredible power to authorities in this pandemic (again I agree with most) but its not unreasonable to be concerned whether authority will ever relinquish this extra power.

They do have freedom of choice, they chose not to be vaccinated.

So in saying that, they exercised their right of free choice but the Govt segregates them because they dont follow their rule....

Xi Ping at its best....

How is it different to people not being allowed to smoke in public places?

We know the hazzards of smoking,it has been proven over many, many tests and years....this vax is a medication to alliviate the severity of covid,if your vaxed you can still infect others and get sick from it...when we got vaxed against polio etc ,it was proven to stop the disease ...these mRna vaxes havent been 100 percent proven to stop infection as well as the effects after years of it being injected...
just saying not causing an argument...its my opinion and as far as I know Im still allowed that...

AZ could still be an option if your doctor agrees.

Exactly right FG,it is the vax of choice if I get the ultimatum of "no jab no job" which I hope it doesnt come to...
You and I have met and have had good conversations...your advice is to leave it up to my Dr which I want to do,especially that I have had a history of blood clotting...
you must understand my hesitation...it wasnt pleasant dealing with tests and blood thinners 3/4 times a week for 3/4 months...
Im not an anti vaxer...I just want to do whats right for me,as others have chosen to do the same for themselves...

I provided information cited from the Federal Health Department about a week ago outlining that your previous clotting issue was not a contraindication for receiving **either** of the available vaccines, yet you're still banging on about this.

Roll on the vaccine passports.

He should follow the advice of his doctor, not some random on a footy website.

He won’t care about either because ‘Ozmg my choice!’

Like I said, roll on the vax passports and societal exclusions.

I know @TrueTiger reasonably well, I think he is willing to get vaxxed but its worried about his health.

Anybody who has had blood clot issues in the past would have valid concerns.

Gladys is a joke, she has been promising people all these freedoms for the last week or two and comes up with this crap, why even mention it in the first place and build peoples expectations up.

I'm interested in what people think of the change in restrictions. My impression is that people believe when we get to the target vaccination rates restrictions won't exist.

My understanding is that the Delta is so contagious that post reaching really high vaccination levels some restrictions will still be required.

This was in my opinion a pretty tiny change in restrictions. I live in a locked down LGA. I'm doubly vaccinated and I go out for a daily walk with a mask on. I think it's completely stupid. There is no medical reason for it. It's a compliance issue and Dr Chant has clearly stated this.

My take though on the restrictions is that Gladys isn't driving much. I think it's NSW Health led by Dr Chant. I accept there is other input but NSW health are the key players and rightly so.

Restrictions to me though can only stay really strict for so long.

I think most people expect restrictions to be more or less back to pre-covid times once we hit a vaccination target.

Infectious disease experts are obviously not saying that and I guess it's the role of politicians to build policies that balance health, economy, social outcomes etc.

Don't also discount the push from some people in politics to appear to have solved the covid problem before the next federal election.

I'm in the same boat as you regarding one hour of exercise while being fully vaccinated. I think it's crazy, but that's the world we're living in.

As far as NSW goes, it would have been political suicide for Gladys to ease things more when hospitals are full. There are already a few factions in her party that are ready to roll her with her approval rating plumeting.

Earl, Tell anyone thinking that life will return to what was normal pre-covid that they're dreaming.

Sure life goes on and things will slowly open up but there will always from this day forward be some restrictions in place that were not there before COVID was around. In a few years from now our kids and grand kids won't really know any different as this will be the new normal and they will not know any different.

Whatever you may think about us humans, we are pretty adaptable when it comes down to it and the older generation will always think and talk about the good old days and how things were and how much simpler and better life was back then, but as they say, life goes on.

882 cases today and 2 deaths.
Thats a drop from yesterdays numbers.

Another big high quality study. There isn't much change for all of us personally however the figure previously was about 25 times protection if you were vaccinated against going to hospital. This study has a figure of closer to 30.

Stopped giving numbers on how many infected in the community this is the new norm moving forward .. the message is get vaccinated as we’re opening up in months!
The unvaccinated can please themselves … Qld better get there act together as in around 8 weeks NSW will be unlocked !

Might be unlocked on ourselves but QLD will keep the border shut if they think NSW hasn't done enough. Most people in QLD think the Premier is doing a great job, myself included.
Yes, we will have to learn with it but until vaccination rates are high we shouldn't relax restrictions. We shouldn't also be waving the stick like the NSW government and Scomo are doing - vaccination or suffer is their current policy. Not everyone can get vaccinated atm where I live because there simply aren't enough supplies. We don't have a single case because most people are doing the right thing. All they are doing with the stick is turning people off.

If QLD's expecting us to get to zero that isn't going to happen.

There are some issues here:-

1. The disinformation on the AZ vaccine. It's been a monumental mistake. We have vaccines available we just don't have the Pfizer vaccine available. The AZ vaccine is a really good vaccine.
2. I don't think there is any choice but to wave the stick at people. We can't escape the fact that unvaccinated people cost society significantly more than vaccinated people. How do you get around this ? I'm not even a fan but I cannot rationally see any other option.
3. Vaccine hesitancy is really high until you get outbreaks but by then it's too late for some people. So your comments there could lead to increased deaths and sickness that doesn't have to happen.
