Counting to Six SEMI FINAL SPOILER

NRL Official Statement

The NRL has confirmed an error by the Match Officials resulted in Cronulla’s opening try being scored on the seventh tackle.

NRL Head of Football, Mr Todd Greenberg, had the incident reviewed during the course of the first half and said there would be an inquiry into how the error occurred.

“What is most concerning is that there are checks and balances across the entire squad to safeguard against the referees making such a mistake.

“We don’t want this happening again.

“We can’t take points away or change a result of a match due to such a decision but we do have to be able to reassure players and fans that this won't happen again in any game.”

It's the second time the Cowboys have been hard done by the officials after what happened in 2012, Neil Henry came out before the game saying he just wanted his team to have a fair go.

Neil didn't get his wish.

Disgraceful by the nrl. "we can only make sure it won''t happen again" - this is what they said last year. The right thing to do would be to take away the points scored from that try and let the cowboys go into the 2nd week of finals. What sort of sport lets teams win by CHEATING? - The NRL took the premiership off Melbourne for "dirty points". Also teams (including Western suburbs) have lost ponts for fielding more than 13 players on the field. On those premises surely Sharks must lose this game.

This should be enough to make everyone feel better now. They make mistakes, but hey at least they always own up to them. Thats all that matters…isn't it?

Mate I'd be ropeable if I was a Cowboys fan - 2 years in a row thrown out of the finals by dud ref decisions. It's just not right. Surprised it was Checcin's mistake though - I thought he has been about the best ref all year. Perenara, on the other hand isn't a referee's butt hole!

Right now though I'm extremely ropeable with myself that I missed watching this match, as I had no idea it was being shown earlier - I thought they were both on 9 from 6.30 tonight! :imp: Why didn't I just turn the bloody TV on!

To top it off, apparently the Cowboys were abused by Sharks fan as they were leaving

Replaying the game just gives the eventual winners opponents a free pass

No easy fix here

Possibly not Ink , the game has changed so much since we had mid week finals , with the interchange the way it is and how players recover from SOO I wouldn't write either side off

It isn't fair to arbitrarily give the game to the Cowboys, because the game is a different game if the refs had got the count right. You don't know what is to come next. But a replay is fair. The only thing is it would have to apply to any referee error that changed the result of the game. You could limit the rule to only sudden death finals games, including the Grand Final.

Just to get the record straight, Western Suburbs had one competition point taken from them vs Canterbury in 1974 i think. The penalty was for using an illegal replacement, a rangy second rower called Mick Luibinskis who scored the try that locked the scores up. in those days you had to play the whole second grade game in order to qualify as a replacement in the first grade game, and he hadn't. The game was a draw, so Wests lost one competition point. At the time I felt it was a great injustice. These things should be settled on the field, not in committee board rooms.

So, I favour a mid week replay.

Replay just too hard especially for NQ

Whadda they do? Fly home tonite, recovery tomorrow, train monday, fly down Mon nite, light run Tues…play Wednesday....then they gotta play agin Saturday at the latest (Game is scheduled for Fri)

Impossible....6 flights up & down the eastern seaboard in one week.

No way on earth could they do that

North QLD would do anything to have another shot

True, I'd be staying and training in Sydney for the week - anything for another crack.

Neither referee noticed it was the 7th tackle. The video ref didn't either. The commentators didn't either. None of the channel nine tech people noticed. I didn't notice and I was watching. Did anyone know?

Someone remind me how NTH QLD got duded last year? I can't remember…

Kieran Foran knocked on an it led to a manly try. Everyone could see it. You could physically watch the manly arm reach up in the air and push the ball forwards. Either that, or a Cowboys try was disallowed because they thought Foran knocking the ball was a cowboy knocking on. It was one of those two scenarios.

The Cowboy's coach and his staff did. They immediately caught on.

Did anyone see the press conference? I don't think I've ever seen a player as distraught and devastated as JT was tonight. Apparently the refs weren't even calling out the tackles all game, the players kept having to go them and ask.

At the half time interval of the match Channel nine played the video replay of the six tackles leading up too the try The referee was clearly heads to say "fifth tackle" when the fifth tackle was completed. He was then heard to say "last tackle" when the sixth tackle was made .
