Cricket Season Thread

Hughes has been a bit disappointing lately. Needs a good score soon. Good chance here for Usman so long as he doesn't get bored watching Ed Cowan at the other end.

Khawaja fails. Aust A 4/58\. Katich out for 1 in the shield. Do we have any batsmen in form?? Apart from Michael Clarke.

Watson made 6 for NSW who are 2/11 against the relentless bowling of Luke "howmuchisthe" Butterworth.
If Phil Jaques was in some form he could have walked into the test team.

fivefa now… Good grief...

Yeah… Seems to be moving around a bit but I can see England passing the Aus A score with only one or two down... Ed Cowan easily the top scorer so far, Steve Smith with a huge opportunity now. My biggest query on Smith is his ability to make runs when the top order get blown away.

smith has done real well to post 50 and with everyone else failing it just shows the talent he has.

other games

Watson out for 6
Katich out for 1
Haddin out for 10
Hauritz a first ball duck
Doherty 0/7 off 4 overs

After Tasmania bowled NSW for 97 in just on 40 overs

Mike Hussey out for a duck
North out for 17

so with smith on 53 and still going i like his chances of taking over from at least North with maybe a few other changes if the likes of Khawaja and Ferguson can get some runs in the second knock

Add Ferguson to that list of failures too. Clarke and Haddin are the only two scoring any runs at the moment.

Well I must say its looking marginally better @ 6/166\. Thought it could have been all over for less than 100 runs.

Stevie Smith putting his hand up again, hope he gets a ton if the team can stick around.

NSW all out for 97.
Tas 3/11 - Ponting made 7

Who said Australian cricket was in trouble?! 😕

Just looked at all the scores, apart from Smith nobody in the Ashes 17 man squad cracked 20, in fact, North with 17 was the only other to break 15\. To think these guys are playing for an Ashes spot, it's ridiculous, hopefully someone puts there hand up, because it could be a bloody long series if they don't.

Ok at the end of day one for all four matches being played out of the 17 players named in the ashes squad here is what they did today

NSW first Innings all out 97

Shane Watson 6 off 16
Simon Katich 1 off 23
Brad Haddin 10 off 35
Nathan Hauritz 0 off 1
Doug Bollinger 0 off 3

Xavier Doherty 0/7 off four overs

Tasmania First Innings all out 125

Ricky Ponting 7 off 27
Xavier Doherty 20* off 14

Doug Bollinger 3/25 off 11
Shane Watson 1/30 off 9

NSW Second Innings 0/18

Shane Watson 13* off 25

Not sure why Simon Katich didnt open they went with Henriques instead

Western Australia First Innings 6/319

Mike Hussey 0 off 18
Marcus North 17 off 51
Mitchell Johnson 82* off 88

Australia A First Innings all out 230

Usman Khawaja 13 off 45
Callum Ferguson 7 off 8
Steve Smith 59 off 145

Out of the 13 players playing today the best would have to be Doug Bollinger, Mitchell Johnson and Steve Smith

Hopefully Katich isn't injured out either can't afford to loose him. If he was to be replaced i wouldn't mind the young WA opener Robinson who scored another 78 today to go with his good form this year

Note: Michael Clarke, Ben Hilfenhaus, Peter Siddle and Ryan Harris are not playing in their respective State Teams

Aussie squad members today:
NSW/Tas game
Batting:
Watson 15
Katich 36
Ponting 27
Haddin 17
Hauritz 6
Bollinger 5

Bowling:
Hauritz 0/7 (1 over)
Doherty 2/45
Bollinger 0/15
Watson 2/17

Victoria/WA
Johnson 122* and 1/18
Hussey and North did not bat or bowl today

AusA/England
Smith 0/57 (10 overs)
No other squad members bowled today

Slightly more promising I must say, but not great.

Johnson ended up with 5 for as well so the bowling pace attack looks set to be hiflenhaus, johnson and bollinger.

watching the Aus A game they said that Katich hurt his arm in the field yesterday the other day thats why he didnt open so a chance for hughes to get a shot if out.

Hussey is on 35 off 44 so giving it a go which is good to see

Katich hurt his shoulder but the report I read said it wouldn't keep him out of the test and he did bat eventually in the NSW innings.

Hussey 70 not out as well in his game looks to be saving his spot.

A better day it seems with Hussey making a century and Johnson taking 5 wickets to go with his 1st innings century. They now need to carry the form on in the Ashes.

Ferguson and Khawaja failed again and Smith was outbowled by O'Keefe, Hauritz had a bit of shocker, 1 over for the match, a first baller and a drop catch which cost NSW the match.

Ponting was out hooking again.

Young Lynn from QLD looks impressive, he's 93 no off 95 balls with 17 4s on a pitch doing a bit, looks headed for his 2nd Shield century this season at 20 years of age.
