Cricket Season Thread

Aussies will get spanked regardless who they send. India go into God mode at home. The toss means nothing to them over there. Even if the Aussies win it and make 400, India will make 600 and still not have to bat a second time.

So with that said, why not give the young kids a go. Great learning curve.

Our recent form against the spinning ball outside of Australia is diabolical. Now we have to take on India at home we are Neville no chance unless there are some outside influences…like a Indian bookmaker

We go OK in South Africa, always seem to do well in the Caribbean and NZ. We've struggled in England of late and everyone has a hard time in India.

We don't dominate overseas like we do on our decks, that's a given but to flat out say we don't perform anywhere else isn't true. I think everyone looks at India and England and just thinks we're flat out rubbish away.

Lost 5 series, won 4 and drawn 1\. In that time SA are a very imposing side, everyone struggles against India and the Poms perform well at home against us of late. The real aberration was losing in Sri Lanka.

My biggest gripe with cricket is every year the poor bowlers are getting a harder life and the batsmen are getting it easier and call me cynical but I think the people who own the game (the broadcasters) have a lot to do with it.

Its nothing new and goes back a long time, things like covered pitches and the front foot rule did not help the bowlers. Now days we have roped boundaries, we have bats that you can straight drive for four off a leading edge. Like in golf the clubs/bats can make average players look good. Would love to see most of the guys today using my Stuart Surrigde or my sons V100\. The poor bowler every year nothing changes for him with the ball except maybe the colour.

Of course all the stadiums/cricket grounds have changed, no longer do you get a raging southerly blowing up from the Randwick end or a breeze to bowl into from the Pado end. The grounds are all surrounded by massive concrete structures, so the poor bowlers miss out on any advantage they may get from the breeze.

We jump up and down when a player hits a ton but when a bowler gets a five for its never the same. 20/20 cricket has not helped and the real quick bowlers have basically been forced out of the game, its now all about the medium/slow bowler who has good variation or the dart throwing spinner.

If you ask me cricket has become very predictable and some what boring and I would love to the bowlers getting a better deal!!!

True SC but I think administrators are more interested in having Tests go 5 days for the $$$$'s

With everything you have said the only way you could help the bowlers is by changing the ball every 60 overs , but then you would spell the death knell for spinners

I still believe we should have never changed from 8 ball overs , but that's just my opinion

CB I was actually a wicket keeper come average batsman, I just love a game where there is something in the strip for both batsmen and bowlers and it is a real contest and the players with real ability rise to the top

We could send a pub team to the Carrebean and NZ and still win in a canter. As for SA, the pitches are similar to ours given they produce tracks that suit their quicks. This team still has a lot to prove. They conceded 450 runs in the fourth innings in Brisbane, but because we won the series things like that get forgotten.

CB I was actually a wicket keeper come average batsman, I just love a game where there is something in the strip for both batsmen and bowlers and it is a real contest and the players with real ability rise to the top

It's OK mate I'm only ribbing. I do agree with you. T20 and ODI has driven the bowler out of the contest somewhat. Test cricket is going the same way as well. Flat tracks, boundary ropes, drop in pitches… It's all giving batsmen a clear advantage in the contest between bat and ball.

Not saying we're slayers at all Gunners. We're certainly heading in the right direction though. If we draw the series in India I'd consider that a success.

I really want Josh Hazlewood to win it, but Smith will end up claiming it.

Good on him. He is a very deserving winner. I am extremely proud of what his captaincy and Batting has done for the Aussie team. His past year in all forms, especially test, have been phenomenal. And that's why he is #1 in test. Considered one if not the best batsmen in the world. He will end up as an all-time cricketing great
