Kiwis have jumped out of the gates. Poor young Patto blasted for three boundaries on the first over of the match. They're certainly looking to deflate their enthusiasm early.

NZ in big trouble, stupid stuff from Taylor before lunch has the Aussies well on top in this one. Ryder needs a big innings here to get them out of this. He goes cheaply we'll probably roll them for something sub 200.

Clarke drops an absolute sitter, hopefully it doesn't cost us. Kiwis looking as ordinary as they always do.

Yep. Clarke is a very, very lazy man sometimes. That was a case of not doing the basics that needed to be done. He was already thinking about the next batsman before the ball reached him.

Vettori is a good mid-lower order batsman. Has an average of 30\. Two dropped catches from Clarke and Warner may cost us.

It was disappointing we couldn't continue on. Those dropped catches have hurt. The bowlers have done a decent job. There was some wayward bowling and poor shots today. Vettori grafted a good score and is looking good. 300 plus is a pretty good 1st innnings score on this pitch, especially when you are 4 for less than a hundred.

I doubt they'll get 300\. Once these 2 go they might fold up pretty quickly. I'm guessing under 250

I think going off was the worst thing to happen to the Kiwis. Those two guyz looked settled and looked to be in a rythym. Now they have to come out again tomorrow and start all over again. Wouldn't surprize me to see them get bowled out for around 220 or even less. I can't wait to watch Chris Martin bat :laughing:

I don't know, Australia has had a notoriety for having trouble cleaning up lower order stands… Even when we were rolling everybody. If Vettori & Brownlie graft out another 50 odd runs, it puts less pressure on the tail order and they will probably score more freely.

They say his 12* was more impressive than Gillespie's 200*. The guy makes McGrath look like Tendulkar. Amazingly he just survived an entire over.

Rolled for 295, probably double what they should've got had Clarke not put down that simple catch. Ah well, time to gets some runs.

I don't think that's necessarily the case Tahger, he's shown good composure in Shield cricket.

To be fair he got one of the best balls of the game and it's not like he was swinging at a bad ball. Just followed him and he couldn't get his gloves out of the way. Unlucky. Long term I think he will play a lot of tests for us. Khawaja could do with some luck. Looked great getting to 38 and then gets run out first ball in to the cash-in session.
