Can't believe we got within farting distance of the Kiwi's score to stay in this… Irrespective of what happens in the second innings, Pattinson or Siddle should be MOM if we win.

Another lousy batting effort from our guys. 6 wickets lost, only 2 making over double figures. Once again some awful shot decisions and indecisiveness. CA needs to develop some green top and have these guys bat there for a couple of hours. Everytime there is a slightly juicy wicket they go to water. It's all very well to score big on belters but good test players need to dig in when the going gets tough.

Justin Langer is doing such a 'great' job as batting coach it seems. He took over 2 years ago and since we have been bowled out for 127 vs Pak in Sydney, 88 vs Pak at Leeds, 98 vs England at Melbourne, and 47 vs SA at Cape Town.
Not only that but we have had batting collapses after our openers have done well too.

Its a funny ground though it is either a highway (can remember a shield game Qld V Tasmania ) when combined both team lost 6 wickets combined for for about 1000 runs in the first innings

Or it is juiced to the eyeballs .

Can't say that about too many grounds anywhere in the world

Well the saying is that 'those who cant do, teach'….obviously the opposite is true as well!

I don't mind Healy except he is a bit too biased towards the Aussies and he is probably better off providing the special comments type commentary then ball by ball.

He's disgustingly bias towards the Aussies. There was a moment on the first day where NZ had a big appeal for caught behind turned down and they decided not to review. He had a little dig at them for not reviewing if they were confident, basically accusing them of trying to cheat by saying if they didn't review it they obviously knew he didn't hit it so why the big appeal. Something he would never say if it were the Aussies. Plenty of other examples as well but the guy grates on me. Throw in the fact he has zero personality. I pretty much try to keep it on mute when he comes on

Yeah could be an interesting morning. Wickets have fallen in the first session everyday so far. If the trend continues, we might have a game on our hands

Isn't it good to see some wickets with a bit of grass on them again.

I think South Africa, England and Australia are making a big effort to try and get some results pitches going again. The matches might not last the 5 days which the networks would want but you could almost say its an investment.

By having more entertaining pitches, more people are going to be interested in the game and more kids might become long term fans for the future.

I think this series and the SA series has been great and I think it has come down to the fact that the pitches have been green and so its been refreshing to see the batsman battle.

The quality of the matches may not seem to be top notch, but that could be down to the green wickets.

If only the subcontinent and the Caribbean follow suit, the pitches don't necessarily have to be green but they could be raging turners, anything that tests the batsman out, rather then the flat roads that we see over there.

There's a lot of talk about India's vaunted batting line up however I think we're gonna see some more green wickets this Summer. Sydney over the last few years has become more favourable to the the seamers instead of the spinners, it isnt how it was in the 80s where we'd have guys like Bob Holland, Peter Taylor and Greg Matthews bowling a 100 overs between them after the new ball. There's been some grass and bounce on the wickets. Add to that, the extra rain we have had this Summer as well.

The other place where I am expecting grass is at the WACA, with the groundsman there conscious of rediscovering the pace and bounce of old, they have been putting more grass on the wickets in the last few years, especially last year.

India showed in England, they can't play seam and bounce, I think the groundsman and CA will be conscious of that. India's best chances will be in Melbourne depending on how much it deteriorates and Adelaide with its low pace and bounce.

Their weak bowling line up may make it difficult to force a result from those matches though.

Once again Phil Hughes makes a start but can't go on with it next morning. He's just not capable of consistently getting going. Even when he makes runs, it is for a session and then he's out early on the next day/session… I think he's played his last test for a while as soon as Marsh/Watson etc are ready to come back in.

Dave Warner up to 64.

Ponting 16
Clarke 0
Hussey 0

Mr Cricket must be getting close to being moved on too… Australia go from a solid position to being a bit of a hole. Warner still there and might as well open up a bit - none of the others are too reliable although having said that, the bowlers have provided some of the better batting for Australia of late. Warner smashes two boundaries to go into the 90s

I think we're still in the box seat here. We need 68 with 2 decent bats at the crease. If these 2 knock off 40 more runs, Siddle and Pattinson are decent enough with the bat to do the rest. Even Starc and Lyon can hold a bat.

As solid as Lyon has looked of late, you would hope he doesn't get a bat. Poor guy looked like he was on death row during the last run chase.

You'd hope not, but he can hold a bat. He's no Chris Martin (or even Glenn McGrath). I think we'll get them with 2-3 wickets in hand though.
