Cricket Season Thread

hauritz has had heaps of chances though. his bowling test ave is around 35 and this year's ave is around 40\. not really good enough. krezja's record is even worse. select the best 3 quicks plus watson who is a 4th quick and can bat and smith bowls right arm leg spin and can also bat.

watching fox sports news today they showed warne's early career record (i was unaware of it as i didn't follow cricket then i was too young), and it was attrocious. He had a 1/60 odd, a 3/11 (cleaning up the tail) and a lot of 0/100+ digs in his first 4 tests, before doing well in his 5th. The hosts talked about, if he came in now and started like that, he would have been dropped, had the red felt pen line ruled through his name, and be destined to play sheffield shield for life, and we know how that turned out. The selectors need to pick some guys and persist, give them time to have a go (this should have been done a while back, not now during an ashes), hughes now knows he has 3 tests to perform, a lot easier for him than if he had 1, he can relax a little. For our next series, pick an xi, tell them, barring injury or they have the whole series to prove themselves. Problem is this should have been done last summer, and we would have had a better xi heading into this summer, being closer to the answer, but right now we are running around in circles and going no where.

i was there for his very first test against india at the scg and remember the crowd all yelling out go home warnie your useless.

I'm happy with our total after that disasterous start….dont give up on them yet, theres still 4 days to go!

The english batting has been punching above their weight so far....they're due for a failure.

gee that cooks in good form.

Its like in that Sienfeld episode when Jerry became George (Fortunewise)

We have become the English.

Thank God Im at work and I am restricted from streaming ABC Grandstand

Took us till day 2 of game 3, but FINALLY our bowlers are performing, we got our 20th wicket for the series (yes the series), I just fear this fightback could be a case of too little too late, the poms jag a win in Melb or Syd it's all over.

Nah man, Ozzies to win two from the final three with a rain effected draw just to rub it in.

I love your optimism Stryker. Amazing what being dropped can do for a player's resolve. The selectors oughta do it more often. Just need the top order to fire in the 2nd innings. 5 sessions to score another 400 runs and then send them back in to bat.

Another mediocre start with the bat. Hopefully Huss and Watson can put something together, they are the only 2 reliable guys at the moment (although Haddin has been going well too). We need Clarke and/or Ponting to find some form, but I really don't think Clarke should come in at 4, he's good for a century when he comes in at 2/200+ but if he comes in at something like 2/50 or less, he seems to struggle. If we can get a total of 300+ on the board here, we should take this one out, if we set them something around 250, they could take out the match and retain the urn.
