yep martin does what he does best miss the straight ball and get bowled for his 32nd duck i believe.

He's making a big play for Courtney's record late in his career!

the funny thing is he is about 10 away from the unwanted record but played less than half the amount of tests that courtney played

The Bradman of poor batting! Speaking of poor batting, Phil Hughes posts another single-figure failure. If Dave Warner makes any sort of runs (or Khawaja for that matter) they can start planning for a longer stay in the team. Depending on fitness we could be looking at something like this for the Indian games.

Warner Marsh
Marsh Khawaja/Warner
Khawaja O Ponting
Ponting R Clarke
Clarke Hussey
Hussey Watson

watson is in serious doubt for whole series after cummins and johnson ruled out for the whole series and marsh and harris is still only 50/50\. we might have to go in with the same 11 again

That will be the only thing that saves Hughes. If Marsh is fit I think he'll open with Dave Warner or Warner and Khawaja to open with Marsh at 3.

Hughes? He's starting to run out of chances. He needs to play a season of shield cricket and then a season of county cricket and get his game in order.

I do not understand the love for Hughes…he started well in SA where I thought here we go, but has done fist all since.
Sorry Bazz but he is not a star, more a flash in the pan....

a flash in the pan would not have scored 17 centuries and 28 half centuries in 65 first class matches. he is down on confidence the media is hassling him and he is thinking to much on what he shouldnt be doing instead of playing his natural game of going after the ball. it may not always come but hayden did the same and once he has his confidence back he will score big and perform at a high standard.

he is only 23 which is his greatest attribute but needs to focus and get out of the spot light for a little bit and just focus on scoring runs

CA stuffed him in the 09 Ashes, they should of kept him in the side instead of dropping him after 3 failures.
His confidence has been shot since and he has played like a man under pressure. Although in saying that he has played on a lot of green pitches where most of his team mates have failed as well.

sounds like a guy I know from Queensland… Could bat, but was always a man under pressure.

It was only when they gave him 2 series to find his feet he went on to greater heights... I think he still holds the Australian highest Test innings score.

Lets hope Hughes can find his time and get it right?!

Hughes is different from Hayden Watto Hughes has some big flaws technique wise and will get found out every time by any half decent bowlers As I said previously he is living off the runs he got in SA which were very lucky and an injury crisis in the top order and Katich's big mouth

To Katich and Clark
Do what real men do
Take it outside , have a blue shake hands keep drinking and forget about it

I think Steve Waugh's captaincy really did help Hayden revive his career. Waugh basically encouraged Hayden to play almost an arrogant style of play like walking at the fast bowlers and smashing the spinners down the ground.

I think early in Hayden's career he wasn't sure whether to play his aggressive nature or play a Test match type of innings like his first two captains, Border and Taylor.

Hayden still had technical issues throughout his career but he worked his way around them. I dont remember him ever playing a cut shot against the quick bowlers and he sometimes got his front pad in the way of his bat, making him susceptible to LBWs.

With Hughes, he seems to have a problem knowing where his off stump is, he needs to learn where it is so he can leave the ball more. The way he got out today, no way should he of been playing a defensive push at it, he should of let it go or if he was going to play a shot, at least drive it. Softer hands in defence will help too, being a short man, its harder for him to get on top of the ball and play it down, so softer hands become more important for when he does edge it.

He got out with 3.3 overs left, he could've realistically added another 20 runs to his total. When he's in form you won't find a better batsman, when he's out of form he looks like he makes Chris Martin look like Brian Lara.

very green pitch ball moving a lot off the seam and through the air.
**on a side note congratulations to M. Clarke for winning his 4th toss in something like his 20th match as captain. looks like this was a match you have to win the toss with and bowl.**

also vettori not playing so thats a huge blow for NZ thats for sure

That's Ponting-esque.

Except Ponting would of batted

I'm just wondering why Christian was in the squad?
If they wanted an all rounder, why not Faulkner? Their batting records are similar (Christian avgs 30, Faulkner avgs 29) and Faulkner looks to be a far better bowler (Christian has 89 wickets from 33 games @ 35, Faulkner has 61 wickets from 19 games @ 24). Not only that but Faulkner is younger and has a better economy rate in all forms.

Probably to help them with their prayers Jazza

I'm so sorry I had to I tried to stop myself

Ohhh Happy :unamused:

Hahaha good effort :stuck_out_tongue:

Another lousy batting effort from our guys. 6 wickets lost, only 2 making over double figures. Once again some awful shot decisions and indecisiveness. CA needs to develop some green top and have these guys bat there for a couple of hours. Everytime there is a slightly juicy wicket they go to water. It's all very well to score big on belters but good test players need to dig in when the going gets tough.
