I'd assume there would be an agreement in place that the final be broadcast on the main channel irrelevent of who misses out.
Looks like Liam Davis is making a late charge for the Carribean tour.
He's had a good season with some Shield and Ryobi 100s and now to cap it off, he is now unbeaten on 230 against NSW. Admittedly it's a 2nd string NSW attack with Starc, Lee, Bollinger, Cummins and Hazlewood missing. But its still a reasonable attack with Copeland, O'Keefe, Hauritz, Watson and Lalor who has started well in his career.
It's probably unlikely he will make it as the selectors will probably go with Warner, Cowan and Watson as the openers for the tour but if the selectors want to reward form like they say they will, Davis may sneak a spot on the tour.
I'm sure that it helps that someone of Allan Border's caliber who used to be a selector has huge raps on him.

Good batting performance by the Aussies. Hussey shows why he is one of the top 5 one day batsman of all time with a quick fire 50 in the middle of the innings that got us going, backed up well by Forrest. Dave Hussey and Christian both had quality knocks to inflate our total. Warner and Wade both did a good job opening, the only batsman who failed was Ponting.
Binga got Gambhir early, which puts a lot of pressure on the Indians.

Aussies smash India by 110 runs. Hilfy was devastating with the ball. Doherty bowled tight with 0/29 off 10.
Can't figure this series out…
- Sri Lanka lose marginally to us, get smashed by India and then draw with them and then smash us;
- We beat India, marginally beat SL, get done by India in the last over, get flogged by SL and then flog India
Thinking Sri Lanka will meet us in the finals.
Nice to see the boys lift and return Punter to the captains winning circle.

On the way out … Ricky Ponting has played more one-day internationals than any other Australian player.
Ricky Ponting's one-day-international career appears to be over after he was dumped from Australia's squad for their next two matches in the tri-series.
All-rounder Shane Watson, skipper Michael Clarke and Ryan Harris will make their returns after recovering from injury.
Selectors have lost patience with Ponting after the 37-year-old's poor form, excluding the former captain from a 13-man squad.
The Tasmanian has scored just 18 runs from five innings at an average of 3.6 and yesterday's failure sounded the death knell on his ODI career.
"Ricky Ponting has been dropped from the squad due to his lack of form in the five Commonwealth Bank Series matches to date in this series," chairman of selectors John Inverarity said in a statement today.
"The team will not seem the same without him, but moving on from the omission of players who have been outstanding over a long period of time is the nature of elite sport.
"Ricky's record speaks for itself. He is one of the truly great performers in the history of Australian ODI cricket, with his reputation enhanced further by him captaining Australia to two World Cup victories.
"Ricky's contribution goes far beyond his batting statistics and his brilliant fielding. The example he sets in every respect and his extraordinarily positive influence in the dressing-room is acknowledged by all. He is held in the highest possible regard by his teammates and there is no higher accolade than this.
"Ricky being prepared to take over the captaincy in Michael Clarke's recent absence for the sake of the team is yet another example of his selfless attitude and team-first focus."
Watson proved his fitness to selectors in NSW's horror loss to Western Australia in Perth. He has not played for Australia since breaking down in South Africa three months ago.
"He is an all-rounder of proven class and the NSP [National Selection Panel] is keen to have him rejoin the squad," Inverarity said.
Harris returns at the expense of left-armer Mitchell Starc.
"Mitchell will benefit greatly from the Tests and the ODIs he has played. His development as a player of the future is most encouraging," Inverarity said.
Selectors also confirmed Matthew Wade had overtaken Brad Haddin as the "preferred ODI wicket-keeper for the Australian ODI team".
"The intention at this stage is to have both Matthew and Brad Haddin in the West Indies together for the duration of the tour," Inverarity said.

Disgrace. No way to treat a legend. Can name many players who were carried through poor form, yet we can't afford the same luxury to the most successful captain ever and best Aussie batsman since Bradman.

I don't know what to think really.
I guess when you think about, he has scored 18 runs in 5 innings, and even before that, his ODI form was ordinary. In his last 30 innings he only averages 29.
The selectors must of felt it was time. The same happened to Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh before him. As for his 'experience' around the dressing room, I guess we don't know how much of a factor that is. If they really value that, he could be an assistant coach.
I'll be disappointed if he retires altogether, it'd be a shame to retire only after being dropped from the ODI side, it'd be a sad way to go despite scoring a double 100 in the last test.

Particularly Chappell and Border
Ponting never had to deal with bowlers of the calibre of Joel Garner ,Andy Roberts ,Michael Holding,Malcolm Marshall ,Colin Croft,Richard Hadlee etc etc etc and he never had to play on stickies
The majority of pitches of today are about as intimidating as a merry go round

Ponting has faced some top bowlers himself particularly early in his career such as Akram, Waqar, Shoaib, Donald, Pollock, Ambrose, Walsh, Murali, and Steyn. I think what makes Border and Chappell just that little bit higher imo is that not only did they have to contend with those great players mentioned, but also I think the next line of bowlers below those greats were better then in Ponting's era.
And of course those other things mentioned, tougher pitches (MCG in the early 80s was a nightmare, so were some of those West Indian pitches), lighter bats, bigger boundaries, less protection (In Chappell's case no helmets), slower over rates which allowed the bowlers to stay fresher, and for Border being the lone hand in the 80s. Even the semi professional nature of that era which meant the players had to stay in dodgy places on the subcontinent.
One more thing that probably gets forgotten about Chappell is his record in Packer's World Series Cricket against the great West Indians place the World XI. His average in that is even higher then his career average.
But take nothing away from Ponting as a Test player though, he would definitely be in the top 5 along with Bradman, Chappell, Border and Waugh. And as an ODI player, he is up there along with Bevan, Hussey and Dean Jones as our best ever ODI batsman.
It's a bit of a sad day really, whenever a player that has been in the Australian cricket team for so long is suddenly gone, it does feel like a chapter has closed and it even makes me feel just that little bit older when I remember it wasn't so long ago that he was seen as the new boy wonder in the side.
I really hope Punter doesnt retire from Test cricket. The one day game may have caught up with him but he is still thriving in the test arena. He averaged 100 in the past series.
Personally I dont believe the selectors have the first clue what they are doing. The fact they came into this series without Siddle and Hilfenhause and then rested Mike Hussey…not to mention they have stuffed around with the batting order every game - tells me they are a bunch of nuff nuffs.
I am also very dissappointed with the attitudes of some ex players like Waugh and O'Donnell with their recent comments. Didnt hear boo off them during the test series when Rick was killing it. No praise or acknowledgement there. He puts some poor performances together in the ODI's and they are lining up to take a swipe.....Could be a sad day today.

If Ricky Ponting does not have a good series against the wests indies, then so be it.
he should be the only one, who determines when its time to retire.
