Cricket Season Thread

Piers Morgan made a dick of himself the past few weeks, and as much as i dont want to like him, but he's an excellent journalist (interviewer). He asks questions others would be afraid to ask and gets a lot out of the interviewees. He's several standards above most of the rubbish out there.

The "English" side expected to be named today:

Alistair Cook © - England
Joe Root - England
Ian Bell - England
Kevin Pietersen - SA
Gary Ballance - Zimbabwe
Ben Stokes - NZ
Jonny Bairstow - England
Scott Borwick - England
Stuart Broad - England
Boyd Rankin - Ireland
Jimmy Anderson - England

Imagine if Trott didn't have a breakdown and Prior wasn't in poor form, there'd be more foreigners in their team than Englishmen.

Don't know a thing about Piers Morgan apart from what I read on twitter from Americans and English that I follow. Nearly 100% of it is negative. He sounds like an arrogant loudmouth, and his loudmouthing put him in that position. I have zero sympathy for him.

ESPNCricinfo reporting that Root has been dropped.

If that is the case , that would be one of the stupidest call of the series

I'd read somewhere they were talking of dropping Carberry and getting Root to open

I don't think Root is a number 3 , you need a player if you get a good start that can continue the up tempo cricket

Root from what I have seen gets to bogged down in his innings and puts more pressure on the other batsmen

To be fair though Happy, Carberry has looked better than most of the English batsmen. Bats with a lot more resolve, and Cook obviously won't sack himself so they've taken the easy option and sacked the kid with years ahead of him. He really hasn't done much outside of Adelaide though so maybe it was justified.

How good has Haddin been this series. Again saved our team when 5/97.

Bailey has played his last test for Australia.

Hope Steve Smith scores another ton.

I haven't felt sorry for a Pom in a while. But watching Boyd Rankin breakdown to injury twice on debut, I feel a fair amount of sympathy for him. I wish anyone on their debut good luck, that's just tough.

Rankin is not a Pom. He's an Irishman who has to play for the Poms because the ECB and BCCI don't want to admit Ireland as a Test nation.

Once again why I believe he has been our best player this series. Five times now he has pulled our innings from the fire. Johnson has been sublime too but he has had a decent total to defend thanks to Haddin's efforts.

He is man of the series for mine to do what he's done.

Great first day by Australia. Should have been bowled out under 150 - Got 326 top effort Smith and Hads. Now lets set the dogs on them in the morning.

X 2 CB

Said it during the 3rd Test that I thought he had been our best , especially in crucial stages

Story on the ninemsn page has mentioned he is contemplating retirement

Mel is lookin hot hot hot tonite!!!

You're obviously not a fan of the A-League. She's looked hot every night hosting that for the past few seasons. She's quite knowledgable and can hold her own. And easy on the eye. What's there not to like.

Smith and Haddin save us again. I wonder who'll get the nod at 6 as I think Bailey has probably had enough chances and never really looked a test player. There's talk Faulkner and Watson playing in the same team. Others have said Doolan to bat at 3 and the all-rounder at 7 after Haddin. I don't think there are too many other options in the selectors mind at the moment. Maybe Cam White will get a chance after displaying good form this summer. Chris Lynn or Callum Ferguson possibly. Hughes is an opener and I don't think Madison is quite ready.

How about that leave from Cook? Deadset that bloke is a mess. It's a cruel game when a quality player like him can go to water in just a couple of months.
