Cricket Season Thread

Wonder if this is an aberration or a sign of things to come?

Good question CB , I don't think batting second helped

We have batted first in how many of the last 7 Tests ??

More pressure having to chase than there is having to post a total as you always get the last shot with the ball in hand

Credit to the Saffa's, that spell of bowling from Steyn would hold up against anything Johnson's done in the last 4 months. And he's been doing it his whole career, hasn't done it in flashes of brilliance between piles of shit like Johnson has. When it comes to sheer pace and ability he's still the benchmark and he showed in the final session.

Negate Johnson, take out his ability to intimidate and you're well on the way to beating the Aussies. Apart from Haddin, Johnson carried this team throughout the entire Ashes and made them look better then they really were and put a band aid over their batting issues. Crickets a funny game im not saying the Aussies can't win the 3rd test, but if the pitch in the cape is anything similar to this one it will be the same result, cos Johnson showed himself to be a one trick pony in this test with nothing to fall back once intimidation and bodyline fail him.

That was a disappointing result after what the openers managed. The middle order looks like it's feast or famine at the moment.

can you not grow a mo or something gnr?! what have you got against johnson?!

none of the aussie fast bowlers did much in this test at all. personally, i think siddle has been pretty ineffective.

anyway, i said going into the series that it would be an entirely different proposition than playing the english and the south africans would be far tougher. i was very surprised at the first test result. this result is more like what i expected.

hopefully the aussie top order can rebound after a very poor performance (bar warner and rogers) in this one and Cape Town will be a cracker.

yeh, im a "darsh" fan and was really happy after the first test, really disappointed after the second! got a pair didnt he? yikes!

I'll go as far to say we bat first we will win the 3rd Test and if we don't and don't roll them for under 300 in the first innings we will lost the Test

And whats wrong with constructive criticism? i'm not saying the guy is a s*** human being

just want to know why you are singling johnson out? he has only performed below expectation (which is pretty damn high!) in one test. what about siddle, harris?

I think honestly, the Ashes has gone to their heads and they think they are better than they really are. As a trio, they aren't in the same ball park as Steyn, Morkel and Phillander. Sorry, you don't skittle a gutless side like England for one series then come out and announce you're the best attack in the world, when the other 3 have been consistently dismantling sides for 3 yrs, it doesn't work like that.

No problems in having tickets on yourself as it's good for confidence, but you need to know your place and respect the opposition. The Saffa attack have been the benchmark for a few years now. If our boys think they are within farting distance they are fooling themselves.

i hope that isnt the case (they are too full of themselves). there is a difference between confidence and over confidence!

i agree, they have no right to claim they are the best attack in the world, but from memory wasnt that michael clarke who said that?

if you were to go back in this thread, you would see that after the ashes i said that playing south africa would be a different story.

Peter Siddle said they were. Which is kinda funny considering he'd probably be classified as the weakest out of the 3

U19s went out last night losing to South Africa who had a quick that got 6 wickets from memory. Its a never ending production line haha
