There is a solid argument right there in the naming of that squad that this is quite possibly the worst Test team Australia have ever trotted out. Anything different than a 4-0 pantsing will be a massive surprise.

It would be the worst group of spinners to leave our shores in an official side

I think the batting line up has potential , how it copes with what India , its conditions and its pitches throw at us is a different matter

Lets hope they have worked on playing the sweep in 45 degrees heat with 85% + humidity against the best spinners in the world 😛ray:

The trouble is do we have any better spinners??? The guy who played in the big bash we imported from Pakistan might have been better the Steve OK. In saying that my mate who is a coach at the SCG says Steve OK is probably going to have more success than any of the other spinners in India as he skids the ball on.

Totally agree SC , we don't have any better , but we don't seem to be in any hurry to produce any better spinners either

O'Keefe just took 9/54 on a Cambo dustbowl…and caught the other wicket to fall..

Besides the '89 Ashes touring side was the worst to leave Australian shores..everyone knows that..

And I'm guessing some of those scalps where players of the same ilk as Kohli ,Sehwag ,Dhawan etc

 Sehwag's last test for India was in 2013…Dhawan was dropped after NZ tour so yeah...

You know what I mean Geo , Sydney grade cricketers and Indian Test cricketers on their own turf is a slightly different proposition

But as usual NSW think their own having something shining from their kyhber pass no matter how poor they are in real terms

I think that Lyon and O'Keefe will take wickets, they'll just be expensive. It's our batting that will make or break us over there.

I think it would be a pretty poor argument at this stage. Smith and Warner are phenomenal cricketers. Khawaja has a test average in the high 40's (after more than 20 tests). Handscomb and Renshaw are unknowns at this stage but have shown plenty of ability on Australian wickets - they could go either way. Wade is alright if he can find some form with the bat (he's looked better already in the ODI's). The three quicks are all fine - Hazlewood and Starc are some of the best in the world at what they do and Bird has performed well in test cricket to date.

The problems in the team come down to two positions really and they are the front line spinner and the number 6\. They'll select a spin option as the number 6 so it will be out of Agar, Maxwell, SOK or Swepson none of whom are particularly good bowlers and none of whom are likely to perform well with the bat in test cricket (outside of Maxwell they really aren't middle order batsmen). I think Travis Head probably has more potential than any of them to make it as a genuine test batsman and second spinner but he was overlooked.

Anyway there is plenty of ability in the team it just has a few glaring weaknesses. Worst team ever seems a bit harsh at this stage I think.

Wouldn't be taking Mitch Marsh or Scissorhands. Nevill and Kurtis Patterson would be getting the nod from me. Not sure if blooding Patterson on an Indian tour is smart, but he'll offer more with the bat than Mitch Marsh.

Marsh has injured his shoulder CB , might not be on tour

No doubt that we will take that superstar Henriques now :brick:

Time will tell. Wouldn't surprise to see them return home in shame after a 4-0 series shellacking.

Aussies will get spanked regardless who they send. India go into God mode at home. The toss means nothing to them over there. Even if the Aussies win it and make 400, India will make 600 and still not have to bat a second time.

So with that said, why not give the young kids a go. Great learning curve.

Hoping some of our Forum members know some good rain dances for India , we will in all likelihood need them

Haha I'd hate to be in the trenches with any of the Aussie cricket team, they don't seem to have much backbone. A few pretenders will get exposed over there you would think.

Happy outside Warne and McGill very few spinners either offies or leggies have any success in Australia. Some very classy spinners over the years have very big numbers for their efforts in Australia. The conditions just do not suit that form of the game and that is a real shame. The SCG is about the only pitch that gives the spinners some help and that is nowhere what it was like. So it is very hard for a young guy to develop his skills when he spends six months a year on a hiding to nothing. I also think the bats they use today give the batsman a unfair advantage over all types of bowling.

Anyway lets hope Sweepson develops into a freak like Warnie because there is nothing better to watch than real quality spinners on all types of wickets
