Cricket Season Thread

Winning the toss now makes a massive influence on who wins cricket games in all forms of the game and all locations. There has been some talk of doing away with the toss and giving the touring team the automatic choice of batting and bowling. With cricket I tend to be a traditionalist but I think this possible change would be good for the game, it would also stop countries from preparing home town tracks

Warner must be disappointed with his batting, but the Marsh Bros are just not up to it. Usman must come back into the Team & maybe the big show.

I think we are a batsman short. India included an extra batter for this test and won

I think we're two bats short.

I'd be tempted to even give Handsome Pete a run behind the pegs and bring in Patterson and Khawaja.

Our four bowlers are taking 20 wickets comfortably, Marsh is useless with the ball and we're better off sending out a traffic cone with a bat. Wade gave it up when the game was on the line. Renshaw got done by a jaffa, S. Marsh was unlucky I thought, Warner got off to his start and then failed to kick on.

We still very nearly won, had we got Pujara or Rahane early it'd have been a totally different game.

I didn't watch because I was at work but I get the feeling that we might have been slightly impatient looking at the strike rates

We're very competitive which many (myself included,) never gave us a chance of being when the squad was named.

We're still brittle in the batting. I don't see Handscomb being any worse behind the pegs or with the bat than Wade, which frees up a spot for another bat, and dumping M. Marsh opens another.

We could feasibly bat all the way down to Starc at #8 and still have an attack that will be more than capable of rolling them. We have capable part timers in Warner and Smith.

Sorry mate I meant with our batting in the 2nd innings of the 2nd test , seems like no one was digging in when you look at their strike rates

Does Ed Cowan come into contention for the Aussie side. He just got another hundred today and he is in supreme form right now. I know the Aussies selectors will not pick him but he is playing out of his skin.

I think they will replace Marsh with either Hilton Cartwright or Travis Head (or possibly stoinis)

Killer news for our hopes in India

Starc out for the series

Surely Sayers has to get a game. I would not rush Cummins, Pattison has seemed underdone since he returned. Tremain is a pie chucker as seen in his one day exposure. Behrendorff would be the only other option, but again is just working his way back from injury.

Good to see Geoffrey Lawson has his priorities right

Possible NSW Sheffield Shield final over playing Test Cricket with Cummins

Good call Geoff , we should make you chief Test selector

Sure NSW would win a few Sheffield Shield's but Australia might win a few Test Matches and not choke at the vital stage of a series

Solid start..Aussies winning the Toss and batting 0/25 …No spin from indian yet..

Big Show and Cummins in for Darsh and Starc...Uzi stiff..

Warner once again proving he can't bat on anything that offers the bowler something.

Runshaw potting along nicely, was batting his first 25 runs at a strike rate of 100\. He and Smiffy building nicely here.
