Just nice to see that Smith realized they were starting to tie him down and frustrate him last test with their field placements and smith's tendancy to over hit the ball on the leg side and not use his wrists

Umesh for me has been the real surprise packet for the Indians

Not ready to call curtains on Handscomb, he is a talented bat.
Maxi was great to watch, very tempered innings, only put away the deliveries that were there to be hit.

Just looked a little out of sorts in India. The two pitches served up so far have been doozies, don't know whether he was looking to try to get on the front foot to the tweakers but I'm not so sure it suits him. He looks better playing the ball late.

The Indian tour was always going to be a real tough battle for him because he plays off the back foot 90% of time and even when he plays off the front foot he usually goes back than forward. The spinning ball and the reverse swing makes it very dangerous to spend your time on the back foot. Anyway I think he is good enough to learn a lot from this tour.

Only the 2nd 100+ run partnership of the series, Smith the only batsman to score a 100 this series, he has two. The 4th fastest Australian to 19 test centuries. He now has the same number as Tubs Taylor, in ~50 fewer test matches. What's more, he's done it everywhere.
Going into the series I was clearly and undoubtedly of the view that Kohli was by a margin the best test batsmen in the world. Steve Smith said no to that.
Super impressed to see how calm and composed Smith was yesterday. Gone were the overt hystrionics and idiosyncrasies, leaving the Steve Waughesque statue like facade. Unflappable and immovable. A man clearly scorned by the events post Bangaluru, and probably more over his own inability to drag his side over the line, he had a point to prove. He did so emphatically.
To put that into perspective, there was no 100+ partnerships in the IND/RSA series, at all.

Smith is a freak, here's his averages across all countries he has played in:
Australia: 68.65
England: 43.35
India: 56.25
NZ: 131.00
South Africa: 67.25
Sri Lanka: 41.16
UAE (Pakistan): 43.50
Windies: 141.50
Only place he hasn't scored a ton is the UAE, but he's got close with 97.
He's averaging nearly 11 runs more than Kohli in Tests, I don't know how anyone can compare them. Kohli only excels in Australia (62.00,) India (56.21,) NZ (71.33,) and South Africa (68.00.) Everywhere else he's sub 40's, and only averages 13.5 in England.
Kohli is a better all round bat across all formats though.
