Whatever Indian cricket are doing - we need to copy. They are developing batsmen who can play short and long cricket. We aren’t. Most of our top batsmen around the country are hopelessly out of depth once the ball starts doing anything. Give them a concrete road and they slam away. We need to redevelop the ability to develop defensively resolute batsmen

When you are getting outnumbered 500-1 population wise it doesn't help

But I think that every junior who shows talent in India gets a chance ...back in the day only the privileged in India got those chances

If you were an "untouchable" 30 years ago you were an untouchable ...the caste system has changed greatly

They are 2 innings on from getting rolled for 36. Everyone in India is a batsmen or a spinner as the fast bowlers generally die from exhaustion bowling on the pitches over there.

Not picking on you but having a bigger population doesn't make it easier. Yeh there is a larger talent pool but it also means that there is less funding available PER player. Apart from the national level, the state sides, local cricket sides don't have great coaches, physios, trainers etc. Hence, you see India isn't able to develop great fast bowlers/fielders (due to lack of athleticism, injury management etc at the lower levels). They are able to develop good batsmen and spinners as they are largely based on skill.

If you find and develop the right people it is easier

But as we have seen using the Brisbane Broncos as an example if you don't keep the right players you can really struggle

Australian cricket needs to start at the grass roots and focus on getting people involved in and staying in the game.

Grade cricket is a whole day/weekend affair which doesn’t work with contemporary adults with families so the experience isn’t there to support young players. They are pushing kids into the game with T20 and all they want to do is smack the ball around. The craft of the long form of the game is being lost.

At the top level “good around the group” and “captain material” shouldn’t be reasons to be picked. It’s not the late 90s where we have players who can make up for poor performances.

Won’t matter - Indian officials will come up with some excuse. All will be available for selection
