As if you'd choose to bat first on that.

Any greener and you'd be putting on it.

On one hand you can understand him not wanting to be Nasser Hussain 2.0, but that was ridiculous. And leaving both Anderson and Broad out was also nuts. Those things combined, and they got what they deserved.

Anderson and Broad would have loved that deck. All the ingredients were there for the Poms to have a good day. But Joe Rooted their chances

I think Anderson was injured but was Broad dropped?

They were both fit. Anderson I think they wanted to keep in cotton wool for the pink ball test. Broad….dunno. They went with Woakes, probably cos he’s better with the stick. At least one of them needed to play on that deck. Root should be swimming home after the day he’s had.

Anderson is injured. Big loss in the first innings. Broad out was a surprise

Not according to the ECB. They said he was fit, but was being nursed through the series.

I thought that meant he had a niggle and they didn’t want to risk it. Anyhow I agree if that’s the case leaving your two most experienced quicks out on that wicket is just dumb

Yeah, and if like Nasser, the game tracks out to be a complete arse-handing, he'll be known forever as the captain who should said "we'll have a bat, thanks."

You wouldn’t want to rest one of your strike bowlers in the first test, dumb.
Nearly as dumb as batting first on a Brisbane green top.

I can't remember who was quoted saying it, but I always remember this line from a former Aus captain;
"9 times out of 10 if you win the toss you're going in to bat. Then one time out of ten, you think about bowling, and then you bat anyway."
Always makes me laugh on days like today.

It was psychological, nothing more. If this had been any other ground, on any other day, he’d have bowled. But, first Ashes test at the GABBA, too many bad memories for an English captain and didn’t wanna go down in history the same way.

Of the ten wickets to fall today, about 7 were poor cricket shots. The wicket, although green, did not offer as much assistance as we all thought it may. Both sides strength is bowling and both sides have unreliable batting line ups.

I will reserve judgment till the Australians have had a bat, but still think there is not a lot between both sides. I guess Steve Smith, if he finds some form maybe the difference

Pommie batting is like peanut brittle. And one of their two best batsmen hasn’t played in 6 months. The Aussies batting isn’t anything special outside Smith and Marnus, but their bowlers are superior so they have the advantage. Would have been interesting if the Poms had a session in those conditions, but it just wasn’t their day.

Did we put them in?

Terrific bowling display first ever 5for/(C) on debut well done Cummins

plenty left in the wicket tomorrow, Pommy attack is pretty good.
If the poma roll the Aussies for 200 it is game on.
Second test in Adelaide Pink Ball should suit Broad and Anderson we would want to win at Gabba

Only if it’s overcast, they are half a chance. If the sun is out, it will be a long day
