Who cares who they are missing or playing or not playing the pain is glorious..

I like to watch a hiding or two in an ashes but overall I'd like to see a contest.

If you lived through the Windies and the 70’s.. you know hiding’s are are glorious..especially the Poms

Each to their own.

I’d rather a nice tight series with great cricket over a 5-0 whitewash any day

I dont think the pain is glorious @Geo
What's the point in watching one sided matches, unless it's Wests Tigers thrashing the Eels of course.
I went to the SCG a couple of times when Bobby Simpson, Norm Oneill, Neil Harvey, Alan Davidson and other greats were playing.
Back then in the 'Good Old Days' the Poms would play warm up matches against various States allowing them to get a feel for our pitches
Now imo they are chucked in at the deep end with pitches that are prepared exactly the way that will suit Us best and disadvantage the Poms the most, giving Us an unfair advantage.
The reverse applies when We go to England obviously.
A cricket pitch is very small as compared to the Leichhardt Oval playing field for example.
So why cant games be played on a standardised drop in artificial pitch of some sort that can be used in every country for Test Matches etc.
That way there is no advantage to either side.
The players determine the outcome of each International standard match, not the pitch.

The Windies of the 70's were an amazing 'Team'.
But you would have to say their 4 man pace attack was brutal, to the detriment of a fair contest.

Mate i can't agree on a standardised "drop in" pitch for tests all over the world. For me one of the most enjoyable aspects about tests is that you play on pitches which suit the home teams players. This means bouncy pitches in Aust and WI swinging pitches in UK and dust bowls in India/Pak all with different balls that reflect and aid the home team. That is what test matches should be,to win a test series overseas under conditions which suit the home side should be the ultimate prize imho

That’s right Paul. Test cricket is all about adapting to different conditions and being able to focus and play what’s in front of you. Going overseas and taking on a team in their own conditions is the ultimate challenge and is what makes the contest unique. In the last 1” years home teams have won more often but I think that is more down to the busy schedule with less time for players to adapt to the local conditions. Twenty20 being such a money grab doesn’t help either.

Insightful post champion @MAGPIES1963

But the main point for me is:
Touring teams should always have warm up matches.
Good for team cohesion, getting used to local conditions, pitches etc.
Great basis for marketing the tourists in the build up towards the tests.

And home pitches should, imo, always remain.
That's the curve ball all touring teams have to deal with.

They normally do have a few warm up matches. The last tour they did (2017) against NSW and Australia A. This tour was limited due to Covid restrictions and moving around. WA even lost a test because of that.

The series was always going to be lopsided because neither team can play in the other countries conditions.

Australia did alright 18 months ago. Two all series and really should have been 3-1 but for a missed run out by Lyon.

They didn’t win the series though, and haven’t won a series over there since 2001. Crazy when you think about it.

True however they are not lopsided series. The Poms haven’t won a test over here since 2011 or something similar. We are not that strong at home we lost a series to India last year so the results say more able the English than us.

2 of Englands support staff and 2 family members have tested positive. What this means for the rest of this test and the series is anyone’s guess

Good thing the IPL isn’t due to start otherwise England would be on the plane out already.

Pommy bowlers fought back well..Aussies worked hard for the lead..

Now it’s time for our bowlers to destroy them
