When Hugh are getting flogged at test cricket, (t’s a tough game), Hugh will find the weak minded, (Hugh know what I mean), will woke up and see the score is 1/10000, their brains melt and Hugh will then find that they will start reciting the social media gibberish they have just been brainwashed with. But it’s ok @hugh1954 as us older cricketers know Hugh will be brainwashed by something else next week.

Whilst you make some good sense S, I think given that all the batsmen failed McSweeney will get a second chance. Marcus is a huge worry for mine, has been out of form for so long I fear it will never get back.
Anyway, interesting discussion points but expect Perth test will be wrapped up today so not long to wait for next test team,
10 years ago today at the SCG, NSW played South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. During the first innings SA had managed to reach a total of 2/136 on the back of their opener, Australian test cap #408 Phil Hughes, until tragically he was struck in the neck by a Sean Abbott bouncer in the 49th over leading to a vertebral artery dissection. Play was immediately abandoned and he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital to be placed in an induced coma, but 2 days later the boy from Macksville had passed away from his injuries. On the 25th November 2014, he had told multiple people he was not getting out and so he did and will remain 63 not out forever.
A large portion of our current Australian team knew him well and hopefully his memory can inspire them to a strong performance today to honour him.
If you haven't done so I'd recommend reading his official biography book. I read it a while back (like 6-8 years) and it was very worthwhile and interesting, also features parts on rugby league too as I believe he was a handy player in his youth and good mates with Greg Inglis.

Never forget where I was when this news came through.
Sometimes you become a bit complacent about just how dangerous top level sport can be.
That decade went by quickly...
When I conclude a regular in our test side should be dropped I base my opinion on 2 things
- yes of course the stats ( Marnus 9 out 10 last 10 innings less than 10 & Smith average last 12 months 26
-:Actually watching them bat and how they get out ( Marnus almost no shots except squaring up right in front of stumps & Smith getting out same way almost every time looks like replay of most recent dismissals )
I'm really hopeful Smith can fix his issues today .No more jump to offside and miss the ball coming back .Smith is famous for his "hand eye " so Smithy stand more leg side of the ball and just belt it thru the line

Like Tucker, this was a "where were you" moment for me too. Such a tragedy for his family and friends and shocking for anyone remotely involved in the game. I'm sure he this is still sometimes front and center for the guys who were close to him.

It might be the 5th time I'm saying it in this thread, but I still don't understand the hate for T20.
It brings in a new crowd, it brings in a new set of skills for a different type of people.
A certain kind of a person is required for Test Cricket and a different type of person for T20.
The type of people who enjoy Test match, just like the type of player who is a good Test player are rare now. It's not because T20 has come in, it's the changing of times.
T20 cricket hasn't ruined Test cricket, maybe slightly fast tracked the inevitable irrelevancy of it in this day and age.
I have grown up with Cricket shoved in my face my whole life so Test, ODI, T20, T10, whatever it is- I will watch it and I will follow it. Not even 5% of people in Australia would be in that boat.

No we need someone with opening experience to open. Renshaw may have been moved to the Queensland middle order but the bulk of his cricket has been at opener and of course he’s done it at test level.
McWhatshisname possibly deserves a crack in the middle order. Marnus must be almost out of tickets.
I suppose the issue right now is the established guys are failing so we might as well give some of these younger guys a crack. It might get interesting if he gets a decent score against Tassie today,
By that logic Matt Hayden would never have got the recall that led him to greatness. Even Steve Waugh got dropped a couple of times at least. Renshaw has a decent record and even when he doesn’t make huge runs he eats up deliveries. Even if he made 20 off 80 balls that would be a huge step up.
Agree on the others. Cam Bancroft will be out of the WA side soon. Harris is the cricket equivalent of Lord of NSW Cup.

Maddinson is flying along... Wonder if they would be tempted to have 2 lefties facing the new ball against Bumrah.
Maddinson has been really poor so far this season but I kind of feel the poor bastard deserves another shot at test cricket. He was treated pretty shabbily last time around.
And now he’s out. Kurtis Patterson has been n decent touch. Had a long poor run but he does have the best test average in Australian cricket!

Goodwin batting 3 for WA at 22. They must rate him highly but I can't say I know much about him.
