@jadtigerWhat the hell is a woke participant ?
Got anything to do with cricket ?
Whilst you make some good sense S, I think given that all the batsmen failed McSweeney will get a second chance. Marcus is a huge worry for mine, has been out of form for so long I fear it will never get back. After this humiliation ,We have to win the series and so I can't agree certain players deserve more chances and let's reassess after 3 tests
Take no action and the series is gone
IMO -Must drop Marnus as he is actually clueless in facing India to go with 9 out of 10 innings below 10 .
IMO - Smith has a serious technical flaw of jumping to off stump and missing the off cutter .So his chance to save his career is the 2nd innings today and if being generous perhaps the Adelaide Pink ball test
I expect our 2 paternity leave new fathers ( congrats by the way ) Head and Marsh to use the next 2 weeks to train and practise hard .In the field they looked a little unfit to me .
So I'm signalling one or maybe 2 changes for Adelaide
McSweeney is NOT an opener ( maybe to 3 )
To those who said good riddance Warner ! Replacing him is a bit difficult
For me its either Konstas or Inglis to partner Uzzie as both have multiple big scores in Shield this year
Never forget where I was when this news came through.10 years ago today at the SCG, NSW played South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. During the first innings SA had managed to reach a total of 2/136 on the back of their opener, Australian test cap #408 Phil Hughes, until tragically he was struck in the neck by a Sean Abbott bouncer in the 49th leading to a vertebral artery dissection. Play was immediately abandoned and he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital to be placed in an induced coma, but 2 days later the boy from Macksville had passed away from his injuries. On the 25th November 2014, he had told multiple people he was not getting out and so he did and will remain 63 not out forever.
A large portion of our current Australian team knew him well and hopefully his memory can inspire them to a strong performance today to honour him.
If you haven't done so I'd recommend reading his official biography book. I read it a while back (like 6-8 years) and it was very worthwhile and interesting, also features parts on rugby league too as I believe he was a handy player in his youth and good mates with Greg Inglis.
When I conclude a regular in our test side should be dropped I base my opinion on 2 thingsWhilst you make some good sense S, I think given that all the batsmen failed McSweeney will get a second chance. Marcus is a huge worry for mine, has been out of form for so long I fear it will never get back.
Anyway, interesting discussion points but expect Perth test will be wrapped up today so not long to wait for next test team,
Like Tucker, this was a "where were you" moment for me too. Such a tragedy for his family and friends and shocking for anyone remotely involved in the game. I'm sure he this is still sometimes front and center for the guys who were close to him.10 years ago today at the SCG, NSW played South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. No we need someone with opening experience to open. Renshaw may have been moved to the Queensland middle order but the bulk of his cricket has been at opener and of course he’s done it at test level. You mean give him shot number 4.
Reshaw has only just started opening again in shield. Did score a ton recently though.
Fair dinkum any park cricketer hits a couple of hundreds in a row and they could get a call up.
I suppose the issue right now is the established guys are failing so we might as well give some of these younger guys a crack. It might get interesting if he gets a decent score against Tassie today,Fair enough. If Konstas can put together a couple of big scores I am all for it. But looking at his recent run of scores, we would be setting him up to fail against Bumrah and co against the pink ball:

By that logic Matt Hayden would never have got the recall that led him to greatness. Even Steve Waugh got dropped a couple of times at least. Renshaw has a decent record and even when he doesn’t make huge runs he eats up deliveries. Even if he made 20 off 80 balls that would be a huge step up.Agree ,we need to stop going back to batsmen that have been selected and dropped on numerous occasions
This includes Renshaw ,Harris ,Bancroft
Only way forward is new talent
We must find our version of Jaiswal
If he can protect his front pad then put him in...I suppose the issue right now is the established guys are failing so we might as well give some of these younger guys a crack. It might get interesting if he gets a decent score against Tassie today,
Maddinson has been really poor so far this season but I kind of feel the poor bastard deserves another shot at test cricket. He was treated pretty shabbily last time around. If he can protect his front pad then put him in...
Maddinson is flying along... Wonder if they would be tempted to have 2 lefties facing the new ball against Bumrah.
Kurtis Patterson 228 runs at 76Looking at a "best of the rest" of form players in Shield who could be picked:
Top order:
- Konstas 347 at 69
- Harris 342 at 57
- Hunt 333 at 41
- Weatherald 311 at 44
Middle Order:
Cartwright 433 at 63
Inglis 297 at 99
Webster 250 at 50
Konstas, Inglis and Cartwright all probably knocking on the door.
Webster and Weatherald smokeys
Konstas (19), Inglis (29) and Hunt (27) the only ones under 30
Only guys under 25 in the top 20 shield run scorers are Konstas, Goodwin (22) with 288 runs at 48, Davies (24) with 260 at 37
Missed that. Did he start the year dropped or injured? Would love him to get another crackKurtis Patterson 228 runs at 76
Davies has looked good for a while, Goodwin maybe has turned a corner - his old man could bat. As was pointed out earlier it would be nice if these guys made a sustained run of scores.
Agreed. Need an experienced opener. No we need someone with opening experience to open. Renshaw may have been moved to the Queensland middle order but the bulk of his cricket has been at opener and of course he’s done it at test level.
McWhatshisname possibly deserves a crack in the middle order. Marnus must be almost out of tickets.
