You do realise they can swim?…and walk?
Every waterway is a risk and during the wet it’s even more so.
You never really know how many are there.

Thats a really sad story. I feel so sorry for everyone that knew him.
Imagine that drive home to Newcastle for the family....
 
I’m not sure why some of us are criticising animals for being animals.

It’s not like they have a sense of right or wrong.

Their instincts are willing them to survive.

Nothing personal.

Correct...all these comments about getting the good oil and other nonsense. These people live in Disneyland.

In Disneyland the crocodiles are animatronic, so not a threat.
It is common sense to inform yourself with local knowledge if you intend to enter crocodile habitat. At least some of the locals will know enough to give you good advice. Really knowledgeable locals could also give advice about things to look out for, warning signs etc. In one of the most recent attacks, the area was well known as the local habitat of a large aggressive crocodile and the area was best avoided.
Human arrogance can be a risk factor. People tend to see themselves as the apex predator, not as prey. It is a hard way to learn that's not always the case.

Don’t they normally catch aggressive crocs and relocate them to croc farms or further away from people

That sounds more like a southpark episode. "It's coming right for us!"
Chances are, the crocodile you see and can therefore shoot at is not one you have to shoot at. So you're not really protecting yourself from anything. Crocodiles are ambush predators. Most of the time, if you are being attacked, by the time you see them, it's already too late.

Tuckers point is, you don't always know you are in danger and the extra numbers means they are creeping into places they weren't before.
