Culture Change (Lol)

So I’m just going to say this….

And I’m a Cleary fan.....,

In 2016 we finish 9th with a rubbish no heart performance

In 2018 we are currently 9th after a rubbish no heart performance

And the difference is ........

Culture change????

Are we any further advanced?

The match you refer to in 2016 was against the Raiders. It was the last round, and we were playing at home at LO in front of a big crowd. If we won we were in the top 8 - in other words, we had everything to play for.

The Raiders smashed us 52 - 10 and in the process scored 9 tries.

I'd suggest that the performance on Friday night bears no resemblance to our disgraceful performance against the Raiders that day in 2016.

The feeling was the same at the end of the game.

A positive culture is where we get bundled out despite giving it 110% and having a red hot crack… I can handle getting beat by a better team but there were players there on Friday night who looked like they weren't interested

Good post Russell. Though I do question whether or not the quote from Cleary about players that are here now aren’t necessarily the ones who will be here at the end is in fact an actual quote. I have never seen him quoted in print, or heard it out of his mouth. It sounds like one of those things that one person said, and the rest of the forum picked up on it, now it’s getting passed around as fact (A common practice on the internet). Until I’m shown actual evidence that that quote exists, I don’t believe it.

Thanks GNR - did see him say it in one of the video spots (guaranteed) - may have been in the Q &A or after game interview.
Would spend half my life trying to find it for you (don't want to do that) but I did see it.

I wonder why JT got bashed from pillar to post for failing miserably for not fixing the defence when it was his number one goal, yet Cleary gets a free pass for not changing the culture when that’s his main goal. Double standards.

Ohh please get over your defense of JT

You cant see rhyme nor reason on anything when you are fixated on him.

I am sure JT spawned this bloke, he will never be convinced of the the ineptitude of the myth JT

Double standards champ

You are the most yo yo supporter on here, it’s bewildering. You’ve been all over the success the last two weeks and we lose a game and your world comes crashing down again. To be honest your not a genuine supporter, and if there were more like you (thank god there isn’t) we wouldn’t even have a fan base.

Back to your favourite topic of JT lol. The JT you were still defending after nearly 3 years in charge. If you can’t see how much this team has changed then your delusional. So quick and ready to throw Ivan under a bus any chance you get just so you can continue your JT obsession. It’s sickening, I feel sorry for you.

:roll

I saw it, it was an interview on midweek FOX footy show, he said it

He said words to that effect in an interview shown on WT site.

If that”s true than okay. I just hate taking others people’s word on stuff until I see something for myself. It’s how misinformation spreads. Always fact check second hand information.

Yeah, his statements that day cut both ways for me. Whilst I like a no BS and upfront approach, on the other hand it did come across as not installing much faith in the minds of his current squad, which is unlikely a good thing.

It may have been conducted in NZ prior to our "home" game across the ditch?

He qualified that comment with ' Does not mean you can't have success along the way. "

Welp, looks like the Warriors have left the door ajar for us. Hopefully they see the Knights game as a chance at redemption.

Lol, perhaps.

Its ridiculous but im sure he knows, he is just debating the fact for arguments sake.

you know things are messed up when all the people who asked the critics to give Jason Taylor more time are the same ones asking questions of Cleary so soon into a rebuild.

I'm middle of the road on this, with the wins over a few big scalps masking regular losses to those below us on the ladder, that the above results show we should have beaten. I don't know that I would call it a culture issue, but it is definitely an issue.

When looking at the club as a whole, there is no doubt that the club is in a much improved position and was so when Cleary arrived. As with the previous couple of coaches, inheriting a squad not if his making, unlike them, Ivan had the advantage of at least half the players being off contract and only forking out $100k odd for Sirro to play elsewhere this season. Despite not getting an initial off season, he was able directly monitor and decide on which others to keep whilst starting to mold them for this season without a scrap of pressure.

It must be remembered that Potter and Taylor were appointed pretty well as their pre-seasons were about to start and with little or no wriggle room or say in recruitment, with board members interfering, even directly arranging contracts. Contrast this to a coach given much greater control over his squad and recruitment, there is no comparison to be made, so Ivan should rightly be held more to account than his predecessors.

Our off field 'culture' certainly appears to be much improved, but so it damn should be. Rather than struggling by with a shortage of dollars and a couple of NRL appointed directors having WT hamstrung, the partnership structure is sorted and financially sound. Apart from the lack of premium facilities, which is being attended to, there are no real barriers to WT competing with most of other clubs.

Basically, pretty well all the building blocks were there for a successful season and if we don't make the finals, which is very unlikely, then the season is yet another failure, culture or not.

You are asking the same questions. You agree with what I’m saying. You’re just another one playing the man, not the ball.
