Curtis Sironen released [Official p.40]

SIRONEN SET TO LEAVE TIGERS
Written by THE MOLE, June 5, 2016

Don’t be surprised if out-of-favour back-rower Curtis Sironen leaves the Tigers before June 30.

The 22-year-old is having an unhappy 2016, having missed three games with a hamstring injury before being dropped to NSW Cup in round 11.

Sironen has languished in reserve grade the last three weeks and is desperate to revive his career before the June 30 transfer deadline, and his name has been mentioned to at least two other Sydney clubs.

Curtis’ dad Paul is a Tigers legend – he hold the games record for Balmain with 246 appearances and is still involved in the club. Curtis has played 64 matches for the joint venture since his 2012 debut, as well as winning three City Origin jumpers.

Sironen fancies himself as a ball-player but the Tigers already have plenty of playmakers in the shape of halves Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks, as well as hooker Robbie Farah.

That’s frustrating the utility and he’s believed to be assessing his option before the transfer deadline, which falls just before round 17.

Just don't ask him to take hit-ups or play a role he doesn't want to for the good of the team.

I'm not knocking Curtis, but if he does feel he wants to be a ball player, then good luck to him finding a position somewhere, he would have to show a lot more skill and heart if I was to give him a go there…

Seems to me these days the moment a player is dropped to Reggie's, he's looking for another club.
Whatever happened to working hard to get back into the top team?
Nup… Easier to take your bat and ball and go home

Exactly. Players expect everything to be handed to them on a plate these days. Sironen should be putting his head down and working hard on his game, and match fitness. He's got the size to be effective. Better to work on making 15 hitups per game and look to get 2-3 offloads away, have some achieveable stats he can work towards. State Cup is a good place to do it too.

Greetings all. New to the forum. Love the passion. What is Sirro like for straight line speed? Never seen him at a full gallop. He can tackle. Doesnt like the hard yards. Likes the ball play. If we can't offload him turn him into a Tuiaki type winger.

I'm not knocking JT TT but it would be good for Curtis to be coached by a someone with a game plan that is not written on the rear of a postage stamp; five hit ups and the defensive bomb.

Agree with willow. Sirro is potentially a very good player and worth hanging onto but it's his responsibility to prove he's worth restoring to first grade and he does that by playing well in reggies

Geez, there sure are some very angry ants in this thread. Why is it that every thread degenerates into a Farah Vs Taylor brawl? It does get a bit boring.

I don't even think these two guys are at each others throats. Taylor gave Robbie some wraps at the start of the season when he came back.

I agree as well. This may be good for Sirro.

I've never seen any fight in him on the field. Wanting to leave after being dropped doesn't show much off field fight in him either.
He may go alright at a strong club.

What stops him from taking some of those hit ups?

He doesn't have the speed. Ball playing 13 is the best option I can potentially see for him, but that would mean alternating with Elijah Taylor which I can't see happening. Unlike Sirro, Taylor can also rack up 40-50 tackles per game. Sirro doesn't have that type of workrate within him, which is why he should be playing the full 80 in State Cup, and really look to "make" some stats there in terms of hitups, tackles, offloads etc.

I see Siro as being a ball playing 13 as well. I think he could base his game of ET. I don't think either of them have the speed to play on the edges. Sirro doesn't seem to have the same skill or workrate that ET has though.

Of course the other option is to turn him into a front rower, having run hard and straight and get a offload into his game. His defensive part of his game is strong and defending in the middle is a lot easier than defending on the edges. Anyway a change of clubs might be the way to go

Is his lack of speed due to him bulking up to play second row? Some players just don't seem to handle an extra 4-5kg well. I wonder what his weight is now to when he first came into grade.

FWIW - I agree with your statements regarding ET although Sirro looks as though he can pull off a really big hit more than ET.

This is a good option as well.

Sirro the squinty eyed cat.
Zerotackle posted an article about him being allowed to look elsewhere…

Commenters seem to think Melb will be his destination

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that Curtis Sironen has agreed to extend his time at the Club until at least the end of the 2018 NRL season.

The 24 year-old made his debut for Wests Tigers in 2012 and has played 64 NRL games for the Club since then, as well as playing three representative games for City Origin.

Sironen said he was excited to have extended his contract with Wests Tigers after taking up an option for the 2018 NRL season.

“I’m really happy to have secured my future at Wests Tigers and to continue playing for Club I started out at,” Sironen said. “The Club is really important to me and I’ve had a few shaky starts recently but my goal is to work my way back into the NRL side.

“I love everything about Wests Tigers — especially the teammates here because we have all developed a really tight bond.

“It has been really great to see some of the exciting players who have come through the grades with me and I’m looking forward to playing some more footy with those guys.

“To have come through the development pathways as a local junior is really special to me — I’m excited to be able to continue my career at Wests Tigers,” he said.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said that Sironen’s contract extension was another positive for the Club following a number of player re-signings in recent weeks.

“We’re really happy that a player of Curtis’ calibre has decided to extend his time at Wests Tigers,” said Pascoe. “Today’s announcement puts to bed any rumours that Curtis would be playing elsewhere and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a part of our squad.”

Head Coach Jason Taylor said that he looked forward to continuing to work closely with Sironen.

“It’s a great sign for this Club that talented, young, players like Curtis want to continue to be a part of what we’re building here,” said Taylor. “We’ll continue to work with him to ensure that he continues to develop and grow as an NRL player into the future.”
