Siro had a good game tonight with the ball but his defence though when in the 2nd row has not been all that flash. He either misses the tackle or makes a bad read. I don't blame him though he isn't really a 2nd rower at this stage of his career. I would prefer to see him play at 5/8 were he doesn't have the defensive workload that a backrower has. I'm not saying he's a bad defender, I think he is often quite a strong defender but his decision making and finishing off tackles in the forwards was not there. While he wasn't alone in missing some crucial tackles that could have kept us in the game late, I noticed him a bit. Outside of the poor refereeing tonight we don't have much to complain about. We played alright and showed signs for 2014 and beyond. :sign:
 
He'll develop a better defense in time. He is most definately a forward with his size and athleticism.

I agree he was poor in defense last night with a few crucial missed tackles. I was blowing up at one point coz I thought spence missed the tackle for the rabbitohs first try. Then I saw it again and realised it was sironen and didn't feel as angry coz at least Curtis was a beast in attack

Great player to have on that edge. But I did notice the number 12 on his back constantly slipping off tackles. He's not a bad defender, but he definitely needs work. Both on his read and his technique, which I'm confident he'll develop both.

In my opinion Sirro is the 5/ 8 until Mitch Mosses is read for 1st grade. By then Sirro will hopefully have developed his defence enough to put him into the back row.
 
I think it is merely a transitioning period for him as he makes the move into the backrow. He's also come up with some very good tackles this year but having the Burgess boys lining up at you will test any defender.

Don't forget Sirro could be running around in the NYC still this year, his defence will be improved next season.

I agree. He played 80, got tired, made some bad reads. Backrowers have to develop a good side-on tackle (e.g. Fulton) because your opposites try to run your edges rather than straight through you. Siro made a bad habit of arm-grabbing and that will only see you brushed off. But when you see Blair do it for the last try, you can forgive a 20 year old.
 
i dont think he's a bad defender. the only times he misses a tackle when he doesnt put his shoulder in the tackle.

he will learn to get more consistency- otherwise he's got a good shoulder . he will develop.. and he's developing at a good pace.

reminds me of dwyer tbh.
 
I don't think his defence is bad for a guy who wasn't a noted defensive weapon coming through juniors.

Its obvious that some work will be needed to get to an NRL standard though. He is not too far off, a good offseason preparing and I wouldn't be surprised to see a different player for us in 2014.
 
got through a lot work and missed a couple tackles, think he is showing huge potential as a back rower.
Still got some learning, but the future looks bright
