How are you in your home with your family?
Are we still hugging our kids... Are we kissing the missus?
Are you social distancing at home?

No social distancing at home, basically if someone in your homes gets it you all will anyway. Keep your home as normal as possible because outside your home is a whole new world!

100% trying to keep things at home as normal as possible. I have a 4 year old and he is pretty in tune that something is up. I worry if his preschool closes he may go months without interacting with other children and how that will affect him long term.

My work has said to work from home from tomorrow, I had already told my wife that I was doing my minimum hours and no more before they put that in place. Being with family is more important right now.

Yeah my daughter is 6 and is an only child. She is all over what is going on, I am also really worried how she goes without the interaction school gives her, she loves school and is so social, unlike me lol!

Only child here as well. He has cousins but don’t know if we will be able to see them as one sides mum has MS and the other cousins share a house with a 96 year old. Interesting times ahead for our young people, I hope that they come through okay mentally

Yeah my daughter has cousins as well but they live 4 hrs away in the country and live with my elderly parents so it is probably not a trip we can make. We were supposed to head up there for Easter and now that trip is probably off. I don't know how a 6 year old can go for up to 6 months with no contact with kids her own age!

Yep. I’m trying to get my head around that as well. How can kids be kids without others there own age? I’m really not sure how to address this

Me either, she has been asking me for an ipad for ages and I've always said no as I'm not a big fan of them for young kids but I've spent tonight researching them online as something as a distraction for the next few months. It's hard as her birthday is in June and she started planning it 2 months ago, writing out lists of who she wants to come.

Just try and keep them busy I guess, lots of arts and crafts etc!

Got a dog ?
Pets are great for the young ones .

I'm over in Germany. I'm a teacher and our school has been closed for the last week and won't reopen until the 19th of April at the earliest. We've just had our final exams for year 12 students canceled. And all learning has been online. It's hard to get the kids motivated for it, but I've been making a dill out of myself making Star Wars themed videos to try get them engaged!

The state has imposed a strict lockdown. You're not allowed to leave your home unless it is absolutely essential.

I live by myself, so we're one week in and I'm starting to get a little stir crazy. I know there are much more important things, but Rugby League on the weekends was one thing to look forward to.

Stay safe everyone!

Was talking to my wife earlier today about how this will be incredibly tough for people living alone. Keep your head up and keep making those videos, (as a teacher myself) I am sure they are bringing joy to someone’s day

She is terrified of animals, lol. I grew up on a farm and my daughter freezes if she see a dog 50mtrs away. Of course a kid in her class gets stung by a bee last week so with her heightened anxiety with all that is going on she now gets upset if she see a fly.

Its strange as she is very resilient in everything else, but just doesn't like animals. I tease her relentlessly and for a 6 year old she is very very good with the come back.

We’ll work it out. There are a lot of great things on iPads the key is to be selective and engage in it with them so it doesn’t become a passive tool. Yep I think I’ll be hitting up play school for ideas

Might do that mate, thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it! I know we don't always see eye to eyes but its times like this we see the similarities we all have. We are all in this together, the off season on here was so volatile maybe during this time we can all come together and use this site as a place of support for each other!

My daughter is much more creative than either my wife or myself, she constantly has craft ideas on the go. We are currently collecting egg packets for her to make a crocodile they made on the play school art show they have now. She spent all day yesterday making kites, no idea where that idea came from but that is my life lol

I'm also grateful to be part of this supportive forum.
Long off-season, anticipation, waiting etc & then this!?
My work has changed now and may never be back as it was.
Still, there's always sanity here.
Thanks everyone.
And keep safe.

Mate, i'm devastated that the footy is gone, that gave me something to look forward to in the week atm when life is just so dull and repetitive with all that is going on.

Mate keep your chin up, living alone atm must be so hard. If you want someone to chat and msg with to pass the time send me a pm and we will see if we have anything in common!

Love it. We made a cardboard guitar after he watched an episode of play school over lunch last week. Was a fun afternoon playing different songs for him to rock out to.

We have a lot of teachers on here, I'm a teacher as well. Taking some time off at the moment to try and get my own business off the ground and this hits!

I have another teacher mate doing the same. He’s in the food business after teaching special ed for years. Tough time to be a new small business venture hopefully you can ride it out a little

Yeah I have started a business running trivia nights at clubs, just started training a couple of people to take on other clubs so we would have been running multiple venues 4 nights a week. I'd also been helping run a friends business that is an ice delivery company, as of today both have pretty much $0 income. Both are businesses that will come out the other side, mine has very little overheads so can shutdown completely and have $0 outgoing expenses, my mates is in a very strong finacial position and we will use this downtime to prepare it to relaunch and go to the next level.

We’ll work it out. There are a lot of great things on iPads the key is to be selective and engage in it with them so it doesn’t become a passive tool. Yep I think I’ll be hitting up play school for ideas

My daughter is much more creative than either my wife or myself, she constantly has craft ideas on the go. We are currently collecting egg packets for her to make a crocodile they made on the play school art show they have now. She spent all day yesterday making kites, no idea where that idea came from but that is my life lol

Love it. We made a cardboard guitar after he watched an episode of play school over lunch last week. Was a fun afternoon playing different songs for him to rock out to.

My daughter has always had great taste in music, her favourite song has always been Hungerstrike by Temple of the Dog, but her musical taste has started to sour in the last 6 months. Maybe I'll use the next 6 months to return her to the good music!

Good to hear. I use to know someone who ran their own pub trivia business. She always said it was a great job and fun to do. You’ll be back and plenty of time to research questions.

What do you teach?

Mate its, been great! I started doing it as a bit of extra cash while teaching, it took off to the point where 18 months ago I took 12 months off to start to build it to something more than a hobby. During that time a mate of mine asked for help to build his business as a lot of the skills I got in education were transferable, I was an Assistant Principal for 10 years. W got him to the point where he was moving forward really well and he got sick, has had his kidney's removed and is now on dialysis so I took over the day to day of his business and back running mine as a hobby. In January I finally got time to move forward with mine, got some more clubs on board and spent Feb training people to run the nights in the new clubs, but as I said I can shut that down, do some more work with my mate and relaunch both coming out the other side. Only hard part is I'll be doing that without a wage for the next 6 months which is going to be tough but we will get there!
