Daine Laurie #237

6 is a more important position than 1. We have a future star of the game playing fullback in Jersey Flegg. Laurie is going to end up a 6 for us. We are building now and have no chance of winning the comp. Move him there now and let him develop his halves game. Even Gould, who would know, considers him a 6.

For the record I am not arguing with you about him being the best fullback we've had since Tedesco but he doesn't have much competition imo.

He's not a 6, he just needs to be involved in our attack more. When Doueihi was at 6 they formed a good combo but with Mbye there now he's not been as involved

For mine, he needs to be more on the ball. He doesn't appear to have the commanding voice needed to rally a defensive line at fullback either. His run/pass game is probably the best at the club and having him in the halves makes us a lot more dangerous than having him at fullback. He doesn't get good enough ball from our halves, so he should be one.

I don't think he is ready for 6 yet, he played there in the trials and he struggled.

We have so many urgent issues with 2-17, and suddenly FB is the issue??

Would he stiffen the D on the edges? Me thinks not. Doing a very capable job in attack, has some development to go on the other side of the ball. One of our better players all year and probably shouldn’t come up when discussing change.

that fullback you mention might not even break into fist grade for another year or so mate..........

he had been at the club for about 5 days when he played there in the trials and tbh he is still struggling with the fact that he didn't train with us during most of preseason imo

Wait and see. The dude is clearly a 6. Plays like a 6, looks like a 6. He's not a modern fullback. He is built nothing like an elite fullback. He looks and plays like Jerome Luai or Kodi Nikorima. I am not even really saying to play him at 6, I am just saying 6 is clearly his best position, it's written literally all over the kid. His ceiling is pretty good fullback, but if he gets to play at 6 his ceiling is muuuuch higher. He has physical limitations that will prevent him from becoming a dominant fullback imo.

Question: has Laurie ever played 6 in his entire career?

Ryan Paps, Brett Hodgson, Slater, Dylan Edwards, Ponga, Jahrome Hughes... just a few names hardly physical powerhouses at fullback. You don't need to break tackles if you can simply avoid them.

To be honest that is a fair point, but I don't still don't view as being ready to make the move to 5/8th

Who is he

No way! He’s the best at fullback since Tedesco and we are scoring enough points atm, our defence is the only thing we should be worrying about. We don’t need to move one of our few locked in positions, I don’t see Laurie defending in the halves for 80mins. He’s a better fullback and they play like a second five eight anyways. Don’t touch the spine!

I can Back or see this working.
Laurie is too small to be a Center.
Likewise small wingers are not the best idea.
He gets involved clearly he is a huge asset.
Getting him in the play sooner makes sense. I could imagine Doueini and Laurie swapping and I could see it working.

That being said we need consistency at the moment. Keep him at 1 this year.

Wouldn't mind seeing him in 6... Just curious..

Does he have a kicking game?
