Wrote earlier about not caring too much about getting Daine earlier for next season based on being a youngster like Stephano and being able to develop elsewhere for another year. Having checked up on him, I now see him as more similar to Harry Grant at the beginning of this year, in that he is already 21 and ready for the top grade, having also been missing opportunity stuck behind a talented bunch at his club.
Watched the replay of the first 35 minutes of his first run on game in the last round of this year on NRL.com when they rested players and he did enough to suggest he belongs in the top grade now. Not easy to play 80 minutes at fullback or hooker first up and especially so in a Covid season when not having played for six weeks after a couple of cameo appearances of the bench.
Smallish player, but not much shorter than JAC that we were were considering to play at the back and will be closer weight and fitness wise after another off-season, so I now hope that Penrith with their crazy depth there, will do the right thing by him in granting a release.
