Daine Laurie #237

What’s real is Nathan browns assessment of the game, he couldn’t believe they won, the warriors played that bad, that is the true reality of where we are at.
That is a worry, a lot of teams are below their best in the early rounds though.

When it comes to the Tigers it's all about picking purely on effort.

Pick less talented players that will play with constant heart and drive. That's all that matters for us at the moment.

Someone like Seyfarth for example. He has very little talent, but he has heart and desire. Stick with him.

So back to fullback options, pick anyone who will work hard for 80 minutes and put his body on the line. Skill doesn't matter at the moment.
Absolutely spot on.
Everything the club does around picking the team each week and player recruitment or retention for the future should revolve around this theory as an absolute priority. 2 or 3 talented but inconsistent players aren't going to make an ounce of difference to getting our club out of the quicksand it is in, a handful of blokes who leave everything they've got out on the park each week will get this club moving forwards and guarantee a strong future. They need to start with that ASAP.

My mate at the bulldogs told me that dillon will never play nrl at any club that warren macdonell is at, apparently it goes back a few years and that’s the reason dillon left bulldogs to come here, macdonell apparently not shy either at telling people he doesn’t like him
why? Did dillon sleep with his wife or daughter or something

The guy is suffering a massive loss of confidence and whatever the reason for that may be, for mine it is time to get behind him rather than castigate. That doesn't mean that he shouldn't play reserve grade this weekend if WT have enough physically fit players to allow it.

Let us not forget though that whilst he exhibited poor timing and fluffed a few opportunities created for him by Brooks, Daine put himself in the positions to capitalise on them, so the effort was there. Sadly the execution wasn't.

Could be second year syndrome, but reckon he deserves a little more grace if still putting in elsewhere.

What I was told is it’s as simple as about 6 years ago when mr Mac first left us and went to the bulldogs , he was talking shit about a few kids behind there backs at training and and it got back to those kids and dillon was one of them and tommy talau was another apparently, neither were too happy

Needed to show up when little stumpy jock made that intercept but he couldn’t keep up.

Been shocking this season, but last season he was easily the player that put in most week after week, his effort along with being able to diffuse high balls was his better traits stark contrast to whats been going on these 3 games. Sure his defense wasnt great and no one is suggesting he was in the top echelon of fullbacks, but he definitely had more spark in his carry and was easily our most consistent player or there abouts. Sad to see whats happened, perhaps a combination of the injury and off balance in the mental..
I agree, last year he was our best player, by a mile.. I think the coach has destroyed him, along with every other aspect of the teams performance. I really do

They said that about Papenhuyzen 2 years ago , to the point the storm shopped him , because they’re incumbents Drinkwater and Hughes were injured …. Then the rest is history .
He can’t play worse than Laurie . Laurie has had a huge role in losing all of our games this year . He’s always out of position in defence , and teams know if they shift right engage Laurie in the defensive line , then he is extremely slow to understand / lazy , that he needs get the hell out of marker and start moving behind the line to the left because that’s exactly where the teams are going .
Then when the inevitable try is scored we all start blaming winger/centre/half/forward who has tried to fill the gap he’s supposed to be in whilst doing their own job .
It happened all last year , and it hasn’t changed this year .
His numbering in defence is garbage as well , he doesn’t read the play and numbers at all .
Sure he’s lightning in a bottle , but it looks like for now , every team has worked out how to put a lid on that . Which makes him redundant as a fullback .
I agree with most of this, but it really makes me ask… where is the coach in this? You and I see it , how come Madge has not taken him aside and um, you know, coached him out of these habits and improved his team play,,,, sort of like, coaching a team to play as a team and coaching players to play better. Not one player has improved in 4 years, not one damn area

AD could cover it but we moved him on purpose also not back for another 10 odd games.
Hastings is too slow for the fullback at NRL level

I reckon these two are our best options though and it helps the balance of the team. It's not a long term solution but they will catch the ball, hit it up and also create stuff when we have the ball.

To'a should be in the centres or on the wing.
