We won't be signing Finucane - he's asking for more than the WT are willing to pay and wants a long term deal which is the other sticking point.

So just to be clear we are rejecting him.

Good business plan to move away from TPJ to chase our priority and then reject the priority signing and aim for no one.

In the words of the A-team, "I love it when a plan comes together".

Who said Finucane was out priority signing?

TBH, I would of liked either, but the Finucane deal was fraught with danger and I'm sure quite a few of us wouldn't remember that in his year 4, if he wasn't performing?

It sucks, but there are others?

Could you give me a list of 10 others who are equal ability who will help us improve greatly

I doubt he will improve us greatly. If he does then we should have a shot. I like him as a player. He'd be great here.

I agree ...but you have to start somewhere ...I mentioned a few pages ago what sole forward could you bring here that does turn us around ???Answer : no one

I reckon a top 5 player could turn us around. Turbo would make us a quality team. Latrell would make a difference. Tedesco would help. Maybe Brandan Smith, Munster or RTS would turn us around.

This is the problem with marquee signings. There are so few that are worth top dollar. We've gotten it wrong every time. It's really hard. I'd rather just keep having shots at gun juniors. We will get a star or a couple of stars at some point. If we manage them and our cap correctly we could be a good team.

A back won't turn us around ...cmon mate ...you know better than that ......we probably need a Top 50 backrower , Top 50 13 , Top 50 6 , Top 50 3/4 ...just to guarantee a Finals side

The game has changed. It's players like Latrell and Turbo who make the biggest difference. I get what you are stating. We are still getting smashed in the forwards. It's killing us.

I look at Penrith for example ....there back 5 is ok ...but there are better out there ......good 7 , 6 , 13 .....heaps of mobility and size in the forwards ....and the bench .....

Like if you measured the Storm / Penrith 1-17 against the WT's ....how many of our guys make their sides .......that is the scary part .........the part many of the Madge haters forget ......

Hard to see this player coming to WT.
He is not in the 16-24 age bracket and not looking for a team friendly deal to join a club that is not the Storm.

Cameron Smith says Finucane would be a “perfect example” to lead the Wests Tigers:

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/07/08/smith-says-finucane-would-be-a-perfect-example-to-lead-the-wests-tigers/

NRL great Cameron Smith believes his former Storm teammate Dale Finucane would be the perfect leader for the Wests Tigers to put them on the “right track”.

Finucane boasts an impressive career with Melbourne, playing in six grand finals and winning two premierships, many question why on earth a player of his calibre would even consider heading to Leichhardt during such a tough period.

Cameron Smith believes the answer is because the Storm captain could lead as the “perfect example” for the Tigers.

“Talking along the lines of the Tigers fans craving a guy to lead them, perfect example Dale Finucane,” said Smith on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“He is a man that lives and breathes rugby league,

“And is someone that you would just chuck into that system and go, 'Hey boys follow this man right now, do what he does every day and we’ll be on the right track'.”

Finucane is off contract at the end of the 2021 season and a move to the struggling Tigers may not be too far fetched.

The great Cammy's comments belong in the Finucane thread..

Cooper has said it ...Cam has said it ...yet the nuffies in charge of the WT's can't see it

If that isn't proof to any person that our recruitment and retention that we are so off the mark in these areas .....nothing will .....

Buy a touching plaque ...bury us now please .....RIP WT's 1999 -2025 ......

So we should pay $900k+ for 3-4years?

No 850 Year 1 , 800 Yr 2 , 700 Yr 3 , Incentive based contract Yr 4 in our favour

But as I have said many times now .....he is similar to Gallen and keeps himself in immaculate condition ...no reason he can't get 4 years ...,.

I get it. We are second rate. The funny thing is we've recruited well recently. The problem is there isn't an easy fix.

No coach is going to turn this around quickly. We need to keep building. One good thing to me is that I don't think we've over-invested in Madge. We have to keep doing this. We have to separate developing from the coach. Clearly bought players who he could get a bit out of short term but were bad long term buys. I don't think we've done that with Madge. So if Madge gets sacked it's not going to be a big problem. I don't see why you'd sack him though unless there is stuff going on I don't know about.

Well ..we can't invest the 2.something million left in the cap for 2022 and use it to pay overs

Like ....their was some mention at looking at players with 100-150 NRL games experience ...any of them any good ..in the key positions we need fixing .....going to move the club forward

I'm extremely worried with the people at the wheel of the WT's ....they care I know ...but caring and getting results are two completely different ballparks .....

What I was told is that the club is targeting players in that 100-150 game range to build the experience around the young guys, I wasn't told specific targets in that conversation.. The wording was interesting because the line used was "you are not an NRL player until you have played 100 NRL games" That is a variation on an old Tim Sheens saying so I think that advice may have come from Tim.

no point in over spending just 2 land a big name, times r tight, sooner or later that big name will land at our feet

In life if this is how it tends to work out isn't it. This is why I think we should be pretty tough what we will pay in relation to marquee talent. At some point in the next 50 years we will come good and I'll be there.

Hard to see this player coming to WT.
He is not in the 16-24 age bracket and not looking for a team friendly deal to join a club that is not the Storm.

Probably not ...but we have to do what we can ....If we aren't going to even have a red hot dig ...we might as well close the doors now on the WT's

I know mate, I am not saying we shouldn’t have our hat in the ring.
I got my hopes up with TPJ.
This time I am opting to be realistic.

I think we have to weigh up the pros and cons ...but at same stage we will need to make a stand and do everything possible to sign a big name with the right stuff on and off the park

I whole heartedly agree.
If we can find the right one and convince them to take the plunge it will change the recruitment landscape for us as I believe others will then follow.

I don't believe this. Players will go for the money or stay at their current club unless there is some other factor like player's wife wanting to go home or something like that. If we get a big name it'll still be hard to get big name players. That is why we need to be really careful.
