https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/07/08/smith-says-finucane-would-be-a-perfect-example-to-lead-the-wests-tigers/

NRL great Cameron Smith believes his former Storm teammate Dale Finucane would be the perfect leader for the Wests Tigers to put them on the “right track”.

Finucane boasts an impressive career with Melbourne, playing in six grand finals and winning two premierships, many question why on earth a player of his calibre would even consider heading to Leichhardt during such a tough period.

Cameron Smith believes the answer is because the Storm captain could lead as the “perfect example” for the Tigers.

“Talking along the lines of the Tigers fans craving a guy to lead them, perfect example Dale Finucane,” said Smith on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“He is a man that lives and breathes rugby league,

“And is someone that you would just chuck into that system and go, 'Hey boys follow this man right now, do what he does every day and we’ll be on the right track'.”

Finucane is off contract at the end of the 2021 season and a move to the struggling Tigers may not be too far fetched.

The great Cammy's comments belong in the Finucane thread..

Dale Finucane 3 years $ 800 k per year is a strong player and leader

Wants $950K pa....no thanks

That is insane money, for effectively a good member of a forward pack, not a damaging runner or especially lethal tackler, just someone who gets through the work.
***Where has that figure come from?***
What is he believed to be on at the storm?

It was posted here from Geo or Willow (cant remember or be bothered to look it up) last night from a good source and backs up The Poms version that Finucane isnt serious about coming here and we arent his first or even second choice.

Apparently Finucane told Michelle Bishop today that there are 8 clubs.

Well that's an easy decision for the club then. For mine he's worth $600k pa to the right club and his body will likely pack up in 1-2 years.
Wish him all the best.

Finucane will cost us at least $750. And probably 3 contract years.

Appears the dragons have signed Sua for $550 a season.

“St George Illawarra
have at least landed the signature of Jadyn Su’A for the next three-years on a deal worth $1.65 million.”

That's a lot...

I thought so to.
I’m only estimating based on the market but with a club paying $550 for Sua currently not playing first grade.
Compared to a player in origin with 200 games a win ratio of 70% and a finals win ratio of 66%.
Actually maybe $750k might not be enough.

I don't think so for a SOO quality player.. we have Packer on like 750k and he does nothing.. He would fit straight into the starting 13 for us and add the aggression we need... But oh well we are asleep at the wheel and expect people to come knocking our door down and not the other way around.

For S'ua..

Yes S'ua.. 550k for a SOO player for a team like us I would not have a problem with it.

Yeah well I draw a distinction between a State of Origin quality player and a player who happens to have played some State of Origin. Nathan Merritt, James McManus, Jamie Buhrer, Justin Poore, Nathan Peats, Peter Wallace, Dunamis Lui, Corey Allan, Moses Mbye, Tim Glasby, Matt Ballin, David Stagg and various others have all played State of Origin but I wouldn't have thrown any more money at them just because of that fact. Sometimes depth is poor and lesser quality players (like Su'A) get selected.

We should walk away. I don't think people understand the expectations that the club needs to have on a player at that cost. Paying a half that amount of money you want to get a good half. I'd expect Brooks to be on about that money or maybe less.

I assume that our recruitment team have a spreadsheet and can do the maths in relation to a signing like this.

I'm talking about $750k as well. I'm not talking any extra than that.

Cameron Smith says Finucane would be a “perfect example” to lead the Wests Tigers:

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/07/08/smith-says-finucane-would-be-a-perfect-example-to-lead-the-wests-tigers/

Finucane will cost us at least $750. And probably 3 contract years.

Appears the dragons have signed Sua for $550 a season.

“St George Illawarra
have at least landed the signature of Jadyn Su’A for the next three-years on a deal worth $1.65 million.”

That's a lot...

I don't think so for a SOO quality player.. we have Packer on like 750k and he does nothing.. He would fit straight into the starting 13 for us and add the aggression we need... But oh well we are asleep at the wheel and expect people to come knocking our door down and not the other way around.

I understand your sentiment about Packer but I don’t think he’s the yard stick for comparison. Probs an example of what not to do

I disagree ...Packers form at the Drags ...probably had him at the 6-700 k range ......

Matulino ,Reynolds , McQueen and Mbye based on form was way worse

Understand what your saying Re the other lot but i can’t agree on Packer. That’s like comparing to Adam Blair and what money we paid him too. Both were disasters. $600 to $700 k 3 years ago would have premier prop money and he wasn’t worth that at the Dragons either in my opinion.

True but the position we are in I think 550k for a player like him who played SOO this year is a good price. He is like a brown for the Eels where he can create the aggression we lack as Blore has not stepped up to fill that void yet. If he signed for us on that money I think it would of been well received.

You’re probably right and we certainly need some scary blokes in our forwards

We need to start thinking like the Top sides in some areas …

They don't pay Finuance that amount of money. They pay Brandan Smith 500k or less. It ain't rocket science.

I'd love to get Brandon Smith and i'd gladly pay overs for him.

Cooper has said it ...Cam has said it ...yet the nuffies in charge of the WT's can't see it

If that isn't proof to any person that our recruitment and retention that we are so off the mark in these areas .....nothing will .....

Buy a touching plaque ...bury us now please .....RIP WT's 1999 -2025 ......

Would you pay $950K pa for it?

That is reportedly what he wants to come here.

It was a figure Paul Kent pulled from where the sun doesn't shine .......

even 850k is probably too much
850k - 950k for Brandon Smith YES

I bet the market pays Finucane 800 k .....

That is your teams marquee player. You reckon ? I reckon Nofo on 500k is insane. I reckon Finucane on more than that is more insane.

I'll go so far to say that Brandan Smith would be on 500k max.

nofo on 450k is totally insane
Brandon Smith test player, competitor, versatile can play 9 or 13 worth the money and Madge has coached him at Kiwi level.
You then sit and work out who the bench utility is
Hastings
Liddle
Simpkin

This is the way I think you do it. You figure out how much you can pay your top 17 in each position. There has to be a max and a minimum. You then get basically one shot at a marquee player or two shots but you pay each of them less.

I reckon we get one shot because we are probably already spending too much on juniors. Smith is the type of player that you can put those marquee dollars towards. You figure out your best hooker salary which is probably about 500k tops and then you add 300k-500k on top of that. You can only do that once though so if you miss a player then that is how it goes.

I reckon Finucane on 500k is a good buy but that is what we should be offering. He isn't marquee and I don't reckon any other club will offer much over that if anything. Melbourne won't but they are a top team.
