https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/07/08/smith-says-finucane-would-be-a-perfect-example-to-lead-the-wests-tigers/

NRL great Cameron Smith believes his former Storm teammate Dale Finucane would be the perfect leader for the Wests Tigers to put them on the “right track”.

Finucane boasts an impressive career with Melbourne, playing in six grand finals and winning two premierships, many question why on earth a player of his calibre would even consider heading to Leichhardt during such a tough period.

Cameron Smith believes the answer is because the Storm captain could lead as the “perfect example” for the Tigers.

“Talking along the lines of the Tigers fans craving a guy to lead them, perfect example Dale Finucane,” said Smith on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“He is a man that lives and breathes rugby league,

“And is someone that you would just chuck into that system and go, 'Hey boys follow this man right now, do what he does every day and we’ll be on the right track'.”

Finucane is off contract at the end of the 2021 season and a move to the struggling Tigers may not be too far fetched.

The great Cammy's comments belong in the Finucane thread..

Cooper has said it ...Cam has said it ...yet the nuffies in charge of the WT's can't see it

If that isn't proof to any person that our recruitment and retention that we are so off the mark in these areas .....nothing will .....

Buy a touching plaque ...bury us now please .....RIP WT's 1999 -2025 ......

Cam and Cooper might actually think that, or they might just be trying to help an old buddy get paid.

Finucane will cost us at least $750. And probably 3 contract years.

Appears the dragons have signed Sua for $550 a season.

“St George Illawarra
have at least landed the signature of Jadyn Su’A for the next three-years on a deal worth $1.65 million.”

That's a lot...

I don't think so for a SOO quality player.. we have Packer on like 750k and he does nothing.. He would fit straight into the starting 13 for us and add the aggression we need... But oh well we are asleep at the wheel and expect people to come knocking our door down and not the other way around.

I understand your sentiment about Packer but I don’t think he’s the yard stick for comparison. Probs an example of what not to do

True but the position we are in I think 550k for a player like him who played SOO this year is a good price. He is like a brown for the Eels where he can create the aggression we lack as Blore has not stepped up to fill that void yet. If he signed for us on that money I think it would of been well received.

You'd have a couple hundred on here bury them with every name under the sun if they got it wrong

Secondly ...players talk to each other , they'd know exactly what some players thought whose opinions they'd trust ....you probably find Madge even speaks to them occasionally ..he is from the Storm system .....Madge would call a spade a spade knowing he could trust them .....

Would you pay $950K pa for it?

That is reportedly what he wants to come here.

EDIT: This figure is totally wrong, I screwed it up.

Dale Finucane 3 years $ 800 k per year is a strong player and leader
Joseph Tapine 3 years $ 600 k per year , strong and young , new club could bring out his best
Aaron Woods 1 year plus 1 year club option $ 250 k , tried and tested , still playing top grade , still make plenty tackles and still goes forward better than most or our forwards , I don’t care about the past we need to go forward
Dump
Packer save $ 700 k or $ 750 k
Mikaele save $ upwards 350 k just not doing it
Amoun save $ 150 k , not given time so it’s a waste of time

That is insane money, for effectively a good member of a forward pack, not a damaging runner or especially lethal tackler, just someone who gets through the work.
Where has that figure come from?

I would.

This club can't be trusted with any decent salary cap. By sinking that much into a player like Finucane, the less chance they will do something stupid like extend Nuffa or re-sign Moses.

Well they'd look like tossers if they came out and said this ...then he signed with us and he stinks the place up ....true ??

An entire forum would happily bury them ...some don't even need possibility this to currently bury them

They would probably just say that the "culture" must have been even worse than they imagined or some other pivot. I don't see why they would look like tossers just for getting something wrong anyway...seems like a harsh assessment.

You'd have a couple hundred on here bury them with every name under the sun if they got it wrong

Secondly ...players talk to each other , they'd know exactly what some players thought whose opinions they'd trust ....you probably find Madge even speaks to them occasionally ..he is from the Storm system .....Madge would call a spade a spade knowing he could trust them .....

lol Coops and Cammy have no trouble being flogs..

Cameron Smith says Finucane would be a “perfect example” to lead the Wests Tigers:

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/07/08/smith-says-finucane-would-be-a-perfect-example-to-lead-the-wests-tigers/

Would you pay $950K pa for it?

That is reportedly what he wants to come here.

It was a figure Paul Kent pulled from where the sun doesn't shine .......

even 850k is probably too much
850k - 950k for Brandon Smith YES

Dale Finucane 3 years $ 800 k per year is a strong player and leader

Wants $950K pa....no thanks

That is insane money, for effectively a good member of a forward pack, not a damaging runner or especially lethal tackler, just someone who gets through the work.
***Where has that figure come from?***
What is he believed to be on at the storm?

It was posted here from Willow last night from a good source and backs up The Poms version that Finucane isnt serious about coming here and we arent his first or even second choice.

Apparently Finucane told Michelle Bishop today that there are 8 clubs.

Edit: Totally got this wrong....
