@Curaeus said:Who'd want the wretched job-alleged TV deal cockups, player misbehaviour etc etc
@Tiger Watto said:The CEO doesn't need to know anything about the game. He needs to be an 100% administrator, who can surrounds himself with X amount of people who know the game, but have the clout to attract dollars to our game and enter new marketplaces.
RL has been stagnant in the past 15 years, and we need innovators who have the balls to make the tough decisions to see the game become a truly national competition and find ways to stimulate our neighbours in Asia etc.
Those currently involved in the game are not the answer… We need a bloke like Alan Joyce!

I tend to agree,i think its an advantage in the long run to be above the petty politics of any given sport.
I've knocked around Golf Clubs since i was Ten,the best Managers,Secretary/Managers,have been the ones that didn't play Golf.Their job was to run the Club not get involved with the endless pissing comps.,ego arguments, jealousies etc. that sports revolve around.
@Bazzinator said:DAVE Smith has quit after a tumultuous three years as the boss of the National Rugby League.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal he is scheduled to inform staff at League Central headquarters and the game’s key stake holders at 10am today that he would be stepping down from the chief executive officer’s role.
NRL chairman John Grant will take over Smith’s responsibilities as interim CEO.
The independent commission will undertake a world wide recruitment search to identify a new leader before the start of next season.

@everett said:Couldn't do any worse that get someone with the brains of Peter Sterling. Also has passion and played the great game.
The ex AFL CEO would be great but has already come out on record he does not want the gig. Our loss.
@tig_prmz said:NRL is a very small world. You're either in it or you're not. Those that are not IMO wouldn't have a clue about what's needed- no clue of the demographics or the history. yes, you can hire people who know about this stuff but if you want the top job, you need to know both the game and the business.
@Fade To Black said:Agree with your assessment on both Greenburg and Richardson CQTIGER, they are shonky customers who hopefully won't get the gig. As far as Gould goes, whether he is loved or hated, there is no denying he knows the game intimately and is as passionate as they come (he for one would be keen to help out bush footy more than has been happening under previous administrators). He would do a good job IMO but his fondness for both Panthers and the Roosters would be cause for concern.
What did John Quayle do to upset the SL defecting clubs? I would of thought the clubs/players that joined SL did so out of personal greed more than anything. Maybe a better deal for players rights and conditions resulted from the SL 'war' but that was the only positive to come out of SL's almighty 'vision' that they crapped on about relentlessly.
