I really think we can’t afford Nofa, I love the guy for what he brings but I think he’s too expensive if he’s asking more than $325k. I really do.
**Nofa hasn’t played rep footy or finals**. Take a look at the 2 wingers chosen for the blues ahead of Nofa? Both on much less than he’s asking. JAC $375k and Tupou $220k. Our admin is on track now to deliver a well balanced cap. The horror of 2017 is well behind us now . Let’s leave it there..please?

By that logic Brooks should be gone as well.

Let’s not go there ATM as there definitely will be discussions Re Brooks next season , 2021will be his first season that the real pressure will be applied! This is make of move on time , this seems to be the vibe for the whole organisation at the moment... this off season is turning out to be a very different beast.

The logic is floored

Actually the logic of Brooks is pretty sound and fits the situation with Nofa perfectly.

Nofa is not a SoO player and he is not that quality, therefore he cant expect or receive that standard of payment. Brooks likewise isnt anywhere near SoO and he isnt getting paid anywhere near SoO money. SoO halves are $1M+.

we have Brooks until end of 2023 though not sure what he is on 500k or 600k for a half is not bad and is not being paid SOO money

Nofo seems to think he is worth SOO money

@ 685 K Mofa thinks he is worth Universe money as far as a winger is concerned

maybe it's for the best for us he didn't get selected this year
but by the same token it seems management aren't letting themselves get bent as much as they used to

Has anyone heard what is happening with the salary cap for 2021?

It looks like they are staying with a top 30, although that hasn't really been officially announced either.

Is the cap going to be reduced and if so, how are clubs supposed to manage this?

I keep hearing about players having to take a 10% pay cut, is this why players and player managers are asking for big increases, to allow for any reductions in the their pay and the cap?

Confirmation of these things from the NRL would be helpful.

With Maguire all but signed, Tigers offer Nofoaluma new three-year deal
Adrian Proszenko

Having all but secured the signature of coach Michael Maguire, Wests Tigers have moved to also retain their best player by tabling David Nofoaluma a rich three-year deal.

Maguire is close to accepting a two-year contract extension, which the parties are hopeful could be inked and announced within 24 hours. The deal would ensure the premiership-winning mentor remains with the joint-venture outfit until the end of 2023.

In a bid to provide further stability, the Tigers have ramped up plans to ensure Nofoaluma finishes his career as a one-club man. Nofoaluma is a man in demand after a breakout season in which he won the club’s Kelly-Barnes award as player of the year.

Nofoaluma is off contract at the end of 2021 and the Tigers have tabled a three-year deal for their star winger which would make him one of the best-paid outside backs in the game.

“Nobody bleeds black, white and gold the way David Nofoaluma does,” Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis told the Herald.

“It’s not my role to foretell what his intentions or aspirations are, but knowing him as I do, I’d like to think he would love to see out his career at Wests Tigers.

“David is recognised as a very valuable component of the Wests Tigers family on and off the field. He knows that, he knows how we feel about him. Nothing would make me happier than seeing out his days at Wests Tigers.

“At the end of the day it comes down to contractual discussions and he’s represented by an agent, who will be doing the best for his client, while the club is doing best for itself. I think the club and the interests of David Nofoaluma can be reconciled.”

Nofalouma can consider himself unlucky to be overlooked for Blues selection after a stellar year in which he scored 17 tries (equal third in the NRL), 17 line breaks (equal seventh), 118 tackle breaks (third in NRL) and 3,576 running metres (ninth).

The 27 year old has been linked to several clubs including Parramatta, who have informed Blake Ferguson won’t be re-signed beyond next season.

Hagipantelis and his family have formed a strong bond with Nofoaluma. When Hagipantelis' daughter, Kyara, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014, the flanker was one of the first people from the club to visit her in hospital.

“He is a quality lad, I’ve had a lot to do with him over the years. In fact, if his surname was ‘Nofalopoulous’, he may have ended up my son-in-law,” Hagipantelis quipped.

“He was our best player in 2020, without doubt. His name deservedly was thrown around in representative circles because of the quality and consistency of his play.

“He has aspirations of far more success and that has eluded him to date, but I believe he thinks he can achieve that with Wests Tigers.”

When the Tigers were attempting to secure the signature of Josh Addo-Carr for 2021, the Storm were prepared to grant the release if they received Nofoaluma in return via a player swap. However, the Tigers weren’t prepared to part with one of their most prized assets.

“That was an emphatic no,” Hagipantelis said. “David represents the best of Wests Tigers on and off the paddock. We would be rightfully hung up from the gallows by our fans and members if we let someone like David Nofoaluma go voluntarily.”

Retaining Maguire has also been a priority for club powerbrokers. Although he hasn’t been able to help the Tigers break their finals drought in his two seasons in charge, there is confidence that will change under ‘Madge’ next year. The release of Josh Reynolds to the Super League has freed up more salary cap money to spend in Maguire’s quest to do so.

Yeah I wonder what the exact figure is.... it will hurt us in the final year of his deal most likely

It is a worry. Good news re Madge though.

"Making him one of the best paid backs in the game" - Surely this suggests the amount is over 500k/yr and possibly as high as 550k.

Lee might throw a bit his way, or the club could use some of the 8 year player allowance?

Hopefully we're not using too much salary cap

Might make JAC have another look?

Didn’t realise this thread was called “slander Nofoaluma” it’ll be around the 500k mark and we won’t get anyone better for that price. Addo Carr doesn’t want to come so get over that and there are no other outside backs of Nofoalumas quality available. 500 odd thousand is peanuts for a player of nofs quality and passion for the team

I’m happy both are extending for sure. With that veteran allowance, if he’s on say $600k (just an example) and we use the $200k allowance, that means he’ll only take $400k from our cap?

By that logic Brooks should be gone as well.

If Brooks is on $550k then yeh, I reckon he’s on the upper end of his true value imo.

It’s so frustrating that our CEO signed off on some contracts. Mbye at $950k, and Josh at $850k . We’re going to be paying $350 of his for next season by the sound of it.

I heard that number doesn't start with a 5 for Brooks it's a higher number, so yes he is way over payed for what he is delivering, in saying that I have said many times, the whole team will improve with Benji gone, Brooks being a big benefactor

So madge kept selecting bqm even though he knew the whole team would improve without him? Wow madge hampered us last year! Kept selecting him even though he made us a worse team...

Slightly.... but I dont believe he is the kind of guy who will rest on his laurels, he plays the game with a level of leadership, he digs in for the hard work when we are being dominated, he leads the team song weekly, and honestly, I think that deserves a few dollars. We need heart, and he has it in spades.

Love the comments from Lee. Really tugging at Nofo's heart strings. Hope he's listening!

Agreed. The more Lee talks, the more I dig him. It’s very evident he has a genuine passion for the club.

I’m shocked how much Nofo negativity there is in this thread.

Nofo is the heart and soul of this club. He contributes the most on AND off the field.

And all that aside he is an elite winger. Without a doubt top 5 and I would argue top 3. Who’s better...JAC and maybe Tupou. Who else?

He absolutely deserves to be paid as an elite winger. We’ve seen the club draw a line in the sand and refuse to pay overs so I have full confidence Hartigan and Madge will get it right here.

Jesus if you’re a Tigers fan and you don’t love Nofo then IMO you’re doing it wrong.
