Defense

The thing that excites me about the Tigers this year is our D.

The footage I saw of the trial (thanks Vlad) confirmed what I already suspected.

Moltzen replacing Lui in the front line will change our defense remarkably. Moltzen is actually a rather formidable defender and makes far better decisions. It won't be an automatic tactic for teams to target him like they have Lui (well after they find out it's a worthless tactic anyway). Couple that with the addition of Blair who is considered one of, if not THE best defender in the NRL we will have an even better defensive unit than last year with Gibbs all but covered by Bell in the defense department. Marshall will be a year smarter and more confident too in defense and the rest of our pack and centres and even wingers to some extent (Reddy, Ryan, Tuqiri and Utai are far from poor in that regard) we will be incredibly difficult to penetrate.

Notice that the two tries Parramatta did score were from kicks, one which was spilled. I think that most teams are going to have to resort to kicks to get through us this year.

I do believe that this is going to be the year we hold a team to nil, and it will happen more than once.

I hope your right about holding a team to zero Mac

And this is why having Utai in the side will be an big issue he will get peppered with bombs and his defensive issues will be badly exposed as clubs will have less focus points in our defence than in the past

Don't forget other aspects of defence such as kicking game and kick chase. You could have the tightest defensive line in the world but if you keep handing over possession on halfway you're going to find the opposition will have chances to score through fluke or brilliance that even the best defences cant keep out forever.

General kicking and kick chase are still big unknowns for this season
