Dene Halatau Announces His Retirement

Dene is the perfect example of how a first grade footballer should conduct himself on and off the field. The game would do itself a favor to employ Dene to mentor young kids on how to hold themselves while in the public eye. A definite ornament to the game.

Congrats on a good career.

His performances in the back half of 2005 were underrated, he played an important role getting us going from DH and allowing robbie to attack from first receiver at times. **Was MOM against the dragons??**

250ish games (by the end of the year), 15 tests, 1 premiership and a Grand final with the doggies (i think), shapes up as a pretty good career…

best game of his career.

X2.

X3.

He was 18th man for Canterbury in the grand final they lost to Melbourne. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dene_Halatau

And yes a very good career. Most would take his career in a heartbeat.

Every club needs a Deano or two, champion bloke, honest footballer and not ego driven. Gee I would like to see some of his qualities rub off on a few of the "P" platers we have in the club. I suppose if you wanted a word to describe Dean, the word toiler comes to mind and you can be called a lot worse things than a toiler

The original and best Kapow…

Best of Luck in the future Dene...good decision...

I'll just leave this here….

Thank you Dene Halatau.....

Was instrumental in our late charge to glory in 2005, well done mate you have had a great career, lets hope you can have one last run into finals footy this year, all the best champ.

Oh damn. I cried when he left to go to the Bulldogs, now I'm going to cry again. He is all class. A wonderful man and the best example and role model for our younger boys. I hope he remains with the Tigers in some capacity or, if not, with the NRL. He is too special to lose to the game completely.

He has been great for us. He is probably leaving at a good time as well. He could go another season or maybe two but he is leaving while still playing good footy.

Dene was always my favourite Tiger player before he left to go to the Bulldogs.
All the best for the future Dene, hope there is a position for you at the club.

Seems like a very selfless player and clubman….an absolute rarity in today's ego-driven, eat-your-own, gimme gimme world of soulless rugby league.
Heartfelt thanks Dene from every WT supporter, you will always be an integral member of the magical side that gave us fans, and the NRL in general, such an incredible thrill many moons ago.
Enjoy the remainder of this season champ and with a bit of luck you may again be a part of something special with our club over the coming few weeks.
Thanks again to a real gentleman, role-model and ambassador for our sport.

A great clubman who always put the club ahead of himself. A wonderful person as well, always well mannered and polite, I'm sure Halatau will be a success off the field.

Great clubman, great guy and great player at times. He will be missed for all those attributes and I wish him the best in his final few games and in his retirement. He deserves a positive finale and a finals position would be fitting.
