Dene hasn't been in great form this year no denying. He has put in for this club in the past and If the club wants to keep him I have no problems. People whinge about how loyalty is dead and when a player who has played his whole first grade career with the club wants to stay people can't wait to kick him out the door. I

Thats how I feel.

Same here - happy to give him another go.

It's not a case of kicking him out the door, it's about getting value for money and having a player who performs well, and Halatau has not performed well for quite some time. we've got better players coming through who deserve their chance moreso than re-signing Halatau.

Bulldogs Media Release

The Bulldogs have today added another International to their impressive 2010 playing roster by securing the services of premiership winning Kiwi International Dene Halatau on a three year deal.

Halatau, 26, has appeared in 126 NRL first grade matches including the 2005 premiership for the West Tigers and has represented New Zealand on 14 occasions.

In addition Halatau is extremely well respected by the greater community as a upstanding representative for both rugby league and the Pacific Nations, fulfilling ambassadorial type roles on numerous occasions.

Bulldogs Coach Kevin Moore today confirmed Halatau as another key signing for the Bulldogs.

“We are very excited about the prospect of Dene joining our ranks, he adds tremendous quality to our on field roster and contributes strong leadership qualities both on and off the field.”

I'm not overly disappointed in losing Halatau and although we will miss his utility value, along with Morris, his performances for a while now have been lackluster and with Fulton coming back next year we couldn't afford to carry both players on our roster.
Well done for your services at the Tigers Dene and best of luck at the Doggies!

Best of luck to Dene.

I hope he rediscovers his form from the juniors with the Dogs but also hope for this form to go missing whenever the Tigers play the Dogs.

Regardless of future form I think this move is best for both parties

Btw I got that as an email from a Dogs fan, so sorry for no official link.

We are getting rid of the right players, but what are we replacing them with? I would rather replace them with our juniors than the likes of Tupou, Brown & Daniella.

HALATAU SIGNS WITH THE BULLDOGS
Friday, August 14, 2009
Wests Tigers utility Dene Halatau has signed a three-year deal with the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs today announced the signing of the premiership winning Kiwi International.

The 26-year-old has been a wonderful player for the Wests Tigers since making his first grade debut against Manly at Leichhardt Oval in round 13 of the 2003 season.

A Balmain junior, Halatau has played 126 matches for Wests Tigers and played a vital role in the historic 2005 premiership victory. He has scored 16 tries for the club.

Halatau has represented New Zealand on 14 occasions.
Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell said the club wished Halatau well.

“Dene has thanked Wests Tigers for everything the club has done for him,’’ McDonnell said.

“Although he loves the club, Dene felt he needed a change and a new challenge at this time of his career. Dene has given Wests Tigers tremendous service on and off the field.’’

Halatau is hoping to return from a knee injury next week. He has played 16 games this season

Good luck mate….loved for 12 good weeks in 2005.
A disappointment for the next 78 weeks (okay you played some okay matches during this time).
I hope you can bring some good experience to Balmain in their quest for NSW Cup glory this year.
And best of luck with Bankstown Sport Bulls next year with Matt Utai and the rest of the ex first graders in their squad.

Can we now sign someone decent?? Please.

I'm stoked for Dene! Imo he wasn't getting a fair go here, so as has been said earlier the move is in the best interests of both parties. Good luck to the bloke, be a shame to see him go but it's the right thing.

Did this guy spit on some of your mothers or something? I know he hasn't been the 5 star player some of you are used to seeing in your teams, but the reactions from some people on here are well over the top.

Yeah, gun juniors like Flanagan, Trimarchi, McDonnell and co.

Not every junior is a talent. Just like no junior we have would do a better job than Halatau at the moment.

Always sad to see a club man depart but with only 25spots up for grabs for 1st tier contact players you have to make some hard calls. As others have said, its a win for Deano and its probably means we can now retain Gelea and Payne or maybe their is something else in the pipeline. Its all about getting the right mix and balance of players. Anyway we owe him plenty his game against the Drags in 2005 got us through to the GF and that should not be forgotton.

Pretty sad day really. He is moving to a club with alot better depth than us so probably won't get much of a run. I doubt they would have offered him a fortune either. I wonder where all our money is going?

I think you will see Deano playing in blue and white next year

Looks like my little birdie was on the money. Thanks for all your service Deano and no one will forget that game against the Dragons in 2005\. I hope you go on and have a successful career at the Dogs
