Determined Doueihi to lift against Raiders

Wests Tigers fullback Adam Doueihi says last week's loss to the Gold Coast Titans highlighted the need for him to improve and help the team bounce back against the Canberra Raiders on Saturday.

Doueihi, who scored his first try for the club and set up another in the second half, said he felt his own game needs to improve dramatically this week and respond to the challenge issued by Coach Michael Maguire after the game.

“We had a really thorough review and Maguire has made multiple changes to the team this week," Doueihi said. "It’s not just a notice to Benji but a notice to everyone that was out there on the weekend — I personally know I wasn't at my best.

“It’s been a message that we should all be performing at our best and our positions aren’t safe-guarded.”

Doueihi made his first-grade debut under Maguire previously at the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and says the standards expected individually and collectively each week will have the team in a better position moving forward.

“I love Madge's attitude and he is here to win," Doueihi enthused.

"He’s always taking care of the boys, but he isn’t scared to tell us the truth when we need it.

“Everyone is taking what he is saying on board. We had an intense training session on Wednesday and it was really high quality. We’re making sure to be really thorough and critical at training for it to show on game day.

“The updated team have come in ready and raring to go," he said.

“It’s unfortunate for Benji but for Josh Reynolds, this will be a great opportunity. You know when he’s out there on the field he won’t let you down and he’ll bring a lot of energy."

Would love a dollar for every time a WT player has come out in the media saying "I know I wasn't at my best last week" after a pitiful loss.
Rather be hearing blokes say "I think that was my best ever performance" after a well-deserved victory.

It’s unwarranted though cos he was really good. It’s good that he’s not satisfied, but he’s one of the few players who can hold his head up. It was his best game in our jersey so far.

IMO it's a bit of a stretch saying he was really good, he was nowhere to be seen in a few of the tries GC scored.
He was one of our best in attack.
Not having a go at Douehi personally, just sick of hearing the same old excuses after yet another dismal team performance.

There were 15 players that didn't.

Does that mean they thought they played well.

Stop talking and just do. Then you can talk about what you did rather than what you may or may not do.

Played his best game ever for Souff's at FB against the Raiders in the semi last year so lets hope..

He just needs to improve his defensive positioning. It can be taught and I'm more than happy to give him time to learn it.
He is showing great things in the other aspects of his game so it's no surprise to me that he has good attitude. Glad he's here.

That's it in a nutshell mate!

He’s got a good attitude and will only keep improving. Thought he’s been solid at fullback

I just hope Douehi was watching last night's Manly v Broncos match. In the last minute of the match Broncos' Xavier Coates was speeding down the sideline ready to score a try and win the match for the Broncos. Manly fullback Trobejevic was initially in around the centre of the field but showed great determination and speed to bundle Coates into touch and win the game for Manly.

It was a similar situation to last week's Titans V Tigers match when in the last minute of play the Titans winger raced down the touchline with Douehi located centre field. However Douehi didn't show sufficient positional urgency to tackle the winger. Consequently, Titans scored the try and won the match. I hope Douehi has learnt that a first grade fullback needs to be always aware where the opposition attack is heading and needs to put in the extra effort and enthusiasm when in similar situations to Saturday missed opportunity.

Where is the player that was Souths best in the finals series last year??Havent seen the same urgency and comittment in defence that we paid $500k +for.
We can build a team around this guy if hes serious

It probably means they weren't interviewed by the media.

You only need to watch Madge's interview with the media today to know that he has well and truly fired a rocket up the team this week with what he expects. If we got an 80 minute performance from the team each week, we'd have far less to whinge about. I'm hopeful that starts tomorrow night.

You cant ask for any more.

It’s hard to watch other teams improve each season and we just seem to stay the same. I used to look at Madge’s coaching style when he was winning at Souths and we were playing park football. I thought we need a hard arse to coach us into discipline. Well we’ve got Madge now and I’ve been waiting to see him fire up. Lets see how we respond this week. If we don’t, I fear there is there no hope.

Have given him a pass mark based on his work in attack being pretty good, but only just, as like others, I have concern over his work when we don't have the ball. I recall your comments on his running style and you may well be right in it not being a lack of effort, though, for mine his positioning and anticipation leave a lot to be desired.

As he has grown up as a half, I hope that Adam can quickly get on top of these shortfalls, as his work under the high ball puts him above those in the position since Tedesco sold out. I suppose, at least the religious amongst us don't need to pray every time a bomb heads towards him, but we need him to somewhat pick up his deficiencies over the coming weeks, else start looking at him as a future half and elsewhere for our long term option at the back.

It’s his positioning that has been wrong sometimes but I certainly don’t think it’s a lack of effort like some people seem to think. He’s still not played much fullback and has the benefit of learning off Hodgson so I’m sure he will be improving.

I remember the Penrith trial multiple times Cleary tried to kick a 40-20 and he covered it every time, so he can do it for sure.
