Did Bellamy know!!!

It doesn't really matter does it?

At the end of the day, Benji should have been a little more consistent and the award would have been his.

Slater is deserved of the award and along with Benji is one of the best and most exciting players in the game.

I would also think that Bellamy's focus would be on giving the Storm the best chance of winning the grand final, not ensuring one player secures an accolade for individual achievements.

x 2 Finally some sanity on the subject
Slater would swap 3 Clive Churchill medals for a premiership
You don't play for personal accolades you play for the team ,your mates and the club
Sometimes I wonder if some on here have played a game before

No issues with Slater getting the Daly M - great player - probably the best fullback of all time and he turns up each week and plays well. Likewise with Bellamy great achievement in turning around what happened last year. If we don't win the comp I would like Melbourne to win - most consistent team all year.

Ludicrous to think it was a conspiracy involved in the voting process! I do although agree that the voting system has some major flaws and should now be passed on to an independent commission who would be watching and reviewing the games without bias or agendas and only then would we get a truly fair system. But the again people would still say these people had an agenda etc etc

Firstly Slater is an amazing talent and deserved the win. Secondly I agree with some of the posters on here and think its crazy that Bellamy would rest his Slater and Smith because Slater had the Dally M's wrapped up! Why not play Smith then as Bellamy would of known he wasn't going to win? Simple answer is that they secured the minor premiership, they played a game that meant nothing in the scheme of things against a team that won't feature in the finals series and wanted to have their star players fully fit and injury free for their first prelim!

Cronk wasn't rested as he was returning from injury and still needed to get game time under his belt. Conspiracy Theorists please get your hand of it!

Slater. A red hot chance of winning the daily m with 1 round to go, the best individual award in the NRL, and the coach "rests you" for the good of the team!!!

If slater had of lost by 1 point tonight because he was "rested" how do you think slater would have felt!!! If it was me I would be pissed. It would cause more harm than good IMO!!

Bellamy would not rob his best player that opportunity without knowing it was already locked up!!

If that was the case why didn't he rest cronk for 1 last game!!! Because he was still a chance of getting 3 points and tying with slater!!! What's better than having 1 player in your team win the daily m!!! Have 2 win it!!!

Watch all the positive media Melbourne get tomorrow after cleaning up tonight. How the pain of last year has come full circle!!!!

The more I think about it/post about it, the clearer it's becoming. If Phil Rothfield gets a wiff of this thread, it might be the first time he writes a half decent article. Lol!!!

so they should get positive media today. What they came back from inside 12 months would take most clubs 10 yrs, if at all. They deserve credit, not a bunch of conspiracy theories from a minority of bitter Tiger fans upset because their golden boy was pipped at the post
imagine how proud we'd all be if it were the Tigers who had to come back from this

The only Tiger ever robbed of a Dally M was Robbie Farah when Thurston mysteriously polled well in a soundly beaten team to pip Robbie.

I have been watching Rugby League since 1977 and never seen a better full back than Billy Slater. The debate about the greatest full back of all time can now include Billy Slater.

Great consistent player week in week out and deserves the Dally M.

Marshall needs to be more consistent each week but a brillant player and a reason I support the Wests Tigers.

I agree with the comments that it is a team sport and winning a premiership with your mates must be a special feeling.

I dislike Melbourne immensely, but Slater is every bit the real deal and deserved the award.

We can't get a genuine look in for origin, our hooker is runner up two years running but fails to get a start for hooker of the year in one of those years, the list goes on.

There is no doubt the judges have their favourites. There are very few players in our team that I would trade for anyone else to be honest…....

Bellemy and Melbourne would not even considered the Dally M when giving Smith and Slater a rest, all he would be worried about is freshing them up for semies.

I agree completely Goose. If Cronk hadn't been injured a few weeks ago and a little short of match sharpness he would've been rested as well. I don't believe there was any consideration to winning personal honours as the storm would be keen to replace their "stolen premierships"

I haven't been watching quite as long, but I agree, best I have seen, he is now into my top 10 players

A few comments i heard quoted by Craig Bellamy got me thinking he already knew Billy Slater had enough points on Sunday so rested him.

**I heard him quoted by Cameron Smith this morning on 2KY saying Craig "spoke" to a few unnamed people about resting him and slater for the final game of the year. And got the advice it would be "beneficial".**

I thought it strange thinking that the coach wouldn't allow his star player to play the final game of the year with the chance of winning the award, but it all makes sense now, he already knew Benji didn't poll any points agains sharks and made the decision on Sunday after finding this out!!

Not a big deal but find it interesting considering it's supposed to be secret!! Also the nrl wonders why theirs betting scandals when info like this is potentially leaked!!

Sounds a little more than just a coincidence!!!

Wasnt this yesterday morning?
Ie before the awards.
I heard C Smith on 2KY on Tues morning, the un named people he mentions were also brought up by Bellamy in Mons presser, it went for ever and he said he sought advice from several people from a couple of AFL clubs down in melb on resting key players.

Yeah. Someone would have told him.
Hope the 3 people in Victoria who watched the delayed telecast at 2am this morning enjoyed the Melbourne wins…...... :imp:

Yes it's a conspiracy!.
I spent 2 wasted hours of my life watching the Dally M's last night and really none of the award winners seemed surprised by their Trophies, was it a 'fait accompli'?.
Remember that News Ltd own the game of the Working Man and also happen to own the club that dominated the awards, it's called 'nepotism' people!…..

Without a doubt bellamy knew! There is no way he would have been rested otherwise, he didnt care if they lost so why would he be worried about slater going out and doing enough to get the points! Seriously slater said he was pissed he wasnt playing it obviously ment alot to him so i doubt bellamy would upset his star player that much. Ok they have some talent but i HATE melbourne. How does such a cheat get coach of the year?
