Did Taylor deserve the right to go out at least with his best 17 ??

With Ballin and Liddle just 2 weeks away from playing NRL and Elijah Taylor back did he deserve a chance to see if they made a difference

Thoughts ??

Who cares. We have a new shiney thing to play with in Cleary.
A week is a long time in football. We've moved on.

Its a good point. Only 3 games and gone. I think Taylor was a victim not only of his own coaching record at the club but that of those before him as well. 6 years is a long time for a team to not make the finals when half of the teams in the comp make it. I didn't think he would be the coach beyond this year but after an entire off season of training I thought he would have been given a few more rounds with the best possible team available before a decision was made. That's just my thoughts. There would be plenty more to it behind the scenes no doubt.

You can predict my response - it was finals what the board wanted and what did Jason do on the road to the finals…. - well the same thing has happened to him whilst under contract.

All those reports about Jason having the full support of the board in what he did then now seem a bit funny

If he wasn't going to be re-signed, they had to act ASAP, and they did. It's important we give ourselves enough time as possible to get ourselves sorted for next season.

I really don't think Taylor was seen by the Board as the 'long term' coach. He was there to do a job - clean the joint out - and if he had success along the way, well and good. If not, then he was expendable.
With players not prepared to commit to the club until the coaching position was clarified, the Board probably had to move earlier than they would have liked. But the dye had been cast and Taylor was gone.
Whether he deserved a little longer is irrelevant now.

Cleary on the other hand, is obviously seen as a longer term proposition. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what he can do with this rabble and who he sees as the players to build a team around.
Interesting times ahead.
This year will be pretty ugly I'd venture, but we'll see.

I think it was a bit premature tbh, but it seems that perhaps the club was always going to get rid of him after the whole mis-handling of the Farah fiasco last year. I reckon the club wanted both of them gone, as some on here did as well, and now it's happened! Time to move on completely.

100%. The longer it dragged out the worse it was going to be long term. With the majority of the squad off contract it's important that the new coach gets in with enough time to keep and get rid of who he wants. Essentially he'll have the side he wants within 12 months. I expected Taylor to be gone by round 10, good on Pascoe for having the balls to do it this early.

If he's appointed early enough he should have the side he wants next year.

Not that it matters anymore, but what goes around comes around.

He showed the courage to act on certain players but lacked the class to act in manner that was befitting of the service provided. So why did he deserve any better.

Taylor deserved nothing he was here too long.Last year i wanted both Farah and Taylor gone from the club but i wanted it done with respect and as little as possible disruption that year.Instead the Farah departure was botched so badly it looked more like an assassination from a B grade movie,Taylor should have followed him out of the door at the end of 2016 but for some strange reason he was allowed to continue, doing more damage in early 2017 by doing poor preseason preparation and bring morale to a very low level. His sacking was handled far more efficiently but probably the fact he was coach at the start of the year has cost us all chance of making a positive impact this year.
As always i look forward with hope that good decisions are made from here on.We need the right coach to get the right players and we need to stick with him
Sorry for going off topic

Yes to that.

He did deserve the respect and performance ability of the players, irrespective if we or the players didn't like him,the players are paid to PLAY not consort and hold the club to ransom as apparently they have..

Theres definitely two sides to this story…..

Coaching so hard to get right . Flanagan such a good fit a cronulla sharks, other coaches sucked there. Bellamy great at storm could not win a rafle in origin, Robertson a rookie coach come in and did a great job at roosters. Cowboys coach doing a good job. Griffin sucked at broncs doing OK at panthers now. Bennett does. Well for broncs and St George but did not great at new castle. Cleary did well at warriors but not so well at panthers. Taylor did not so well at tigers. What's the missing ingredient?

You're assuming it was only results that was the reason for his sacking.
Much more to it than that
Either way the sooner the better I think if we get Cleary… Hopefully he'll improve the defense

No he didn't. Two reasons. Firstly we got towelled up by the same two teams that did it to us at the back end of last year so obviously our defence hadn't improved greatly.

Secondly, he didn't pick the best he had available to him in the last couple of weeks anyway.

Is this the official JT butt hurt thread ?

Should've never have been appointed in the first place !
