Keen to see what everyone thinks...If he goes, we would he paying a large amount of his salary and would have to replace him with someone better on minimum salary to justify it.

Do we keep him at 5/8 with Brooks playing decently having him there or do we let him go?

Major problem keeping him is we probably lose Doueihi...

No

On his effort last night I'd say he has a new club already

Good riddance.
?

Is the problem because we didnt let him join the Saints earlier in the season?

Brings me back to what I said earlier. If he had a window to let him go, we should have. This year was already on life support.

Hypothetically if mybe agreed to split his 800k contract into 400k with and extra year with us in 23, would you guys take him for a extra year if it mean we split his contract amount in half?

400k - 2022
400k -2023

Pro - his contract is halved
Negative - he stays an extra year

If we won the next few games I wonder
What you guys would say..

Why would he play in 2023 for nothing?

If not us or even another NRL club, he will definitely get picked in Super League.

I've been one of Mbye's strongest supporters but he needs to leave ASAP and Douehi to 5/8.

Bottom line is we probably will not be making the call. If he doesn’t get offered a good contract elsewhere, and that’s on the cards, he will not be going anywhere. Most clubs seem to have their 6 and 7 pretty settled for next year and I doubt there is little demand for him on a mid range contract.

Just like the Packer Reynolds thing we may have some big names in reserve grade next year, Tamou and Reynolds come to mind

his value has gone down exponentially after these two losses. the Gold Coast seems like the most logical option, given they're running with Clark as their starting 9 and they're about to get rid of Taylor, but at this point M'Bye's playing like Milford.

Would rather Milford.

don't say that, with the Ayoub connection that's currently going on he's probably about to sign a 5 year, $5 million deal.

Hahahha.. please no!

Knowing Madge and Co, we wont sign him.

But.... if we had a desperate new coach - we would sign Milf on that sort of $$

Milford will end up some where on a minimum contract and the pressure will be off but he is Mybe mark 2 - no real position and tried everywhere.

If we have the dollars which we seem to do I'd pay out Packer for the rest of the year and get rid of him now. Similarly serious thought to exploring option of seeking a reduction in the value of Mbye's contract to reasonable value for next year. I dont think anyone else will take him but trying to reduce the value of remaining contract may open future doors for him. You never know. If he is not open to arbitration on it or something similar, let it be known.

getting rid of Packer wouldn't help at all. We won't get any cap dispensation. Mbye, we could pay him whatever we can this year so we have wiggle room next year. If he's on 700K this year and 750 next, we could pay him $1m this year if we have the room. The Maumalo signing may hurt us if we want to do this for other players as well.

There is no point to getting rid of Slacker now.He is gone at the end of the season.MBye is taking money under false pretences(like Slacker) and i reckon would be zero chance of taking reduced money next year. Thanks Ivan for inflicting these 2 parasites on our club

Can you believe Mbye is entitled to over $1M in remaining salary. Wow.. Most people would be set for life with that kind of short term cash and this guy is chilling out, running around like a reserve grader for it. Cleary essentially handed him a winning lottery ticket.

Can't we just medically retire Mbye?
Have a doctor examine him and confirm he has no heart?

Mbye 3 x as many runs for almost 4 x as many metres. Moses never even got tackled. Moses missed 9 tackles to Mbyes 3.
Mbye isnt even Moses league as a tanker, but he still has time.

Oh that Mitch Moses game is the all-time tank. Only time in my life I thought a player played badly on purpose. Just refused to tackle. Even my Souths brother-in-law messaged me to ask what the deal with Moses was.

Hated the bloke ever since.

On the other hand I think Mbye does try, he's just lost all semblance of confidence. The bloke has played grand finals and Origin, but 2021 Mbye is a shadow of anything he was.

I like to give all players an opportunity to show their skills when with us...Mbye was a talented player who reached the origin arena...I agree that he isnt who he was when he came to us,Im not saying he doesnt try,he has always represented the club and team to the best of his abilities and doesnt degrade the team or club...In my honest opinion his form has faultered in recent times because he wasnt a suitable captain,he was shuffled from position to position to make up for our deficiencies, had injuries and now is put along side Luke to get him to play his best football and that has shown much improvement...
I have said it before,Mbyes career is coming to an end and if I was to classify him it would be a very good versatile 14 ...I dont want to chastise him for being highly paid, that was the club and Ivans doing,he is also a decent person who really shouldnt be the only person humiliated on the forum when so many others arent toeing the line within the team and club in general..He is here because of a contract that was approved by the club,it was to big for our club at the time and just goes to show how Ivan wanted to buy a team instead of developing our fine juniors, funnily enough he abandoned us to go back to a club that were intent on developing juniors that Gould had started and now Ivan is getting the benefit of that...
Ivan is the one to blame for where we are atm money wise...It will get better we just have to face a little more pain before the door of glory opens up....

Do we keep Mbye. Easy short answer: NO.

Im with you Mike because of his high salary and dip in form....To be honest he isnt the only one who has been employed over the years because of reputation and hasnt met the expectations...(Blair comes to mind for us) but many others at other NRL clubs as well...
