If we have the dollars which we seem to do I'd pay out Packer for the rest of the year and get rid of him now. Similarly serious thought to exploring option of seeking a reduction in the value of Mbye's contract to reasonable value for next year. I dont think anyone else will take him but trying to reduce the value of remaining contract may open future doors for him. You never know. If he is not open to arbitration on it or something similar, let it be known.

getting rid of Packer wouldn't help at all. We won't get any cap dispensation. Mbye, we could pay him whatever we can this year so we have wiggle room next year. If he's on 700K this year and 750 next, we could pay him $1m this year if we have the room. The Maumalo signing may hurt us if we want to do this for other players as well.

Can you believe Mbye is entitled to over $1M in remaining salary. Wow.. Most people would be set for life with that kind of short term cash and this guy is chilling out, running around like a reserve grader for it. Cleary essentially handed him a winning lottery ticket.

I know I can be pro-Mbye sometime but I hate that sort of talk.

Mbye is an elite athlete. When the other kids might have been at home playing Xbox, he would've been at the park practicing kicking, getting his fitness up and doing sprint drills. Yes $1m is a lot of money but there is a lot of sacrifice him and his family would've made to get him to that position.

And that applies to most first graders. Whether it be Milford or Norman or Hunt who people think are overpaid.

Do we keep Mbye. Easy short answer: NO.

Like my response for the Madge sacking thread ..when we have a replacement who is better ...let him go .....as bad as he has been ...no one currently at the club could do better ...even with him injured .....

To keep that in perspective, if you ever visit a heart surgeon, he's probably studied for 10 or 12 years, made huge sacrifices both socially and economically, come out with a HUGE educational debt, and likely gets paid less than many average first graders.

Football players are overpaid. I'm assuming they'd all still play if they made $100,000 p/a as most of them aren't going to get a job anywhere else. The salary cap is a victim of the game itself. (Some) clubs are creaking under the pressure and we're paying these self-entitled sportsmen more than the Premiers, Prime Minister, Head of the Reserve Bank etc.

I wonder how Paul Vaughan would go running our economy? He'd probably start with a massive BBQ...

I agree that Marshall was a liability, but Mbye is even more!
So Mbye - > sell ASP, the AD at 5/8, Cooper to the RC!

NRL players are fast becoming second in line to used car sellers as the most hated profession.

I work with surgeons and I'd say they are underpaid TBH.

The sportsstars getting $1m a year are some of the fittest and strongest physical specimen. They're not getting paid that to just "chil" and "show up to games"as per the post that I quoted.

They work hard or have worked hard to get where they are and I like many on here have worked with elite sports teams. There is a lot of physical and mental sacrifice which is being disrespected by posts like that.

I hate to say it, but most kids, no matter how hard they train will never reach that level. It's a combination of that and natural ability/genetics. There are outliers but they're rare - and that applies to all sports.

Are you saying that other people don't make sacrifices? Parents sending their kids to school is one, paying for their upbringing etc. and then there's uni and other studies for anyone going down that path, small businesses who put their life into making a good go of it. The list goes on.

It's not like no one else makes sacrifices..

Mbye's value does not equate to $1M, all things considered. Not only does it not equate, it's actually pretty insane. It's Cleary's/the club's fault, 100% - not blaming Mbye for that . But I think people just naturally lose respect when a player like Mbye loses all form and at times doesn't appear to put in any effort/care.

Oh I agree, I know a few Olympians in a minor sport (Judo) and you wouldn't believe what they have to do to represent their country. Elite athletes work hard but they also do it by choice.

What they do is incomparable with the knowledge and capabilities of health care professionals, academics and STEM professors. As someone who's been under the knife many times, I fully appreciate the training they've had.

For example, the last op I had was a spinal fusion - 4.5 hours of super delicate work around the spinal cord. Surgery cost was about $4,000. Most players make more for 80 minutes - even when losing by 50.

I was saying the same a month ago, but after watching him on the weekend nobody could actually do worse than Mbye. He might have a few drops of talent left in him, but he has no enthusiasm whatsoever. He just doesn't seem to care anymore.

Do you think its a bit suspicious that the Dragons were interested in him and he played two good games. The Dragons lost interest in him and he lost interest in playing well, now we are stuck with him for another year and a half.

100%

Those who see it see it. The others are pre occupied blaming others or have simply missed the footage of his efforts.

Guy is tanking. Sad state of affairs

Well if Mbye is trying to sell himself to another Club and tanking ..that's as dumb as a stick..

Disagree. I think he is poisonous. He should be let go at the earliest opportunity. He’s the bloke that does nothing but talks himself up so you think he is good. The last person you need at your workplace.

I think he realized that the Dragons were his last chance to play else where other than seeing out his contract, and guess what.

Unfortunately we are stuck with an overpaid player who cant even get to "plod" speed. Thanks Ivan

He should be named as a reserve every week number 18. That way he doesn’t play and doesn’t impact the second tier cap.

The issue is Madge wants to drop half the squad he can’t do it under the rules. Some players are in the team due to pay packet unfortunately.

What rule stops him from dropping half the squad? Anyone in the 30 can play. Mbye playing Reggies doesnt affect the second tier cap.
