DO YOU SUPPORT GILLARDS CARBON TAX ?

I supported an ETS with legislated outcomes and built in review procedures.

Dont support the tax in its current form.

Particular peeve is the lack of governemt intervention with power companies. As soon as the tax was floated as an idea prices were raised. In fact by my calculation there have been 6 rises in price before the introduction of the tax.

The companies sight maintenance costs increasing but in reality it has been staggered gouging, nothing more

‘Australian households will, ultimately, bear the full cost of a carbon price…Wait and see.

You can throw away your electric blankets turn off for good your electrical heaters ,turn off for good your spare fridge/freezer , do not repeat not use your clothes dryer.!!! .sparingly use hot water for showers and baths , Girls do not use your curling wands or hair dryers..it just goes on and on ... :imp:

the carbon tax should be seen as an opportunity not a curse
Unfortunately there will be some pain -loss of jobs and price hikes
But in the long run it should force Australia to become a pioner of sustainable, non polluting technologies which hopefully can be sold internationally
We need to have a commercial edge above international markets
its a time to think long term not short term

In principal yes. But not while our economy is still weak and the wealth distribution part infuriates me.

It's a way to raise money to cover for the waste and needless expenditure.

Some of it is the right thinking, but wrong time, wrong place, wrong everything else.

Bingo! It's okay for the flat earth crowd to deny the bleeding obvious but this is the way things are heading and getting in early will give us a massive commercial advantage.

As I understand it most if not practically all of the money raised is being redistributed in the form of tax breaks to individuals and to boost renewable energy.

Didn't the IPART decision indicate a total rise in bills of around $4 a week? And even then not all of it was due to the Carbon Tax. Given the price of carbon is unlikely to rise and will probably fall in real terms how do you figure your doomsday scenario is likely?

LMAO, we did have a commercial edge [or more correctly as economists call it - comparative advantage], over the whole world called CHEAP ENERGY aka coal. We have enough to look after this Nation for 100's of years. So much so, that we are exporting it like no tomorrow. China loves the stuff. However from 1 July that is no longer the case and we will hope for the wind to blow, the sun to shine and mother earth to fart of geothermal energy, all in the name of political correctness.

The simple fact is that we can shut up Australia and go live in caves [unheated of course because fires wont be allowed - too much CO2] and China and India will spew out more CO2 in absolute terms (and it is only in absolute terms that matter, this rubbish about Australia being the largest per capita emitters dont mean squat. We are a flea on the bum of the elephant. Only when absolute emissions reduce will there be any change) than we saved the world from.

All this tax is shooting ourselves in the foot.

The carbon price aka tax is a fraud. It is a blatent welfare redistribution cloaked in green credentials.

I support a price on carbon, yes
basic neoliberal economic theory (which the Coalition swears by) also dictates that a price on carbon is in the interest of the economy
so for that reason alone, yes

Yes. Higher price will make people think smarter about how they use up energy. Insulation was a good idea also, but who stuffed that up ? Greedy money hungry "installers" doing bogus jobs ripping off the Govt and everyone else. School buildings/construction was a good idea also but who stuffed that up ? As above, greedy, money hungry tradesmen inflating massive prices for the work by 100-200%. Still use your electric blanket but just for 20 minutes before you go to bed, get the gas on, turn off the lights when you're not using them, switch your plasma and appliances off at the wall, not the remote when you on't use it. Use a clothes line not the dryer. If it's raining hang them up on the veranda. Now here it comes, Telegraph readers and 2GB listeners, open slather.
Actually come to think of it, this tax is having an effect on the Tigers already. The fewer tackles and line breaks they make, the less energy they're expelling. Ah, I get it, it all makes sense now. We are the green team.

“The carbon tax will drive up prices on just about everything , threaten jobs and do nothing absolutely nothing for the environment. It"s just a great BIG NEW TAX on everything, and every year it will just go UP and UP and UP There should be NO carbon TAX without a MANDATE. Let the voters decide. !!! Remember Gillard saying this 'THERE WILL BE NO CARBON TAX UNDER THE GOVERNMENT I LEAD"

no.
we pay too many taxes already.

That implies we are paying the carbon tax ourself, we aren't being taxed this. It will however effect the cost of living (energy bills etc) though hence we will be all giving free money (w00t) effectively, via tax cuts to make up for it. All in all, will pretty much equal out and won't make much of a difference to our lifestyle/budgets at all.

This is my sentiment also. I support the principle of one, but lopsided wealth distribution has lost me.
