I think it matters a bit, but it's not a decisive factor. Your skills actually are the most relevant.

Height is less of an issue in the backs than it used to be. The 7 tackle rule makes bombing the ingoal unnatractive and you can't touch the winger or fullback in the air.
What's more important is their ability to get to ground quickly, either moving forward like Tedesco or just ragdolling down in a voluntary tackle like Nofoaluma. Either option is safe. What doesn't work is coming down flat-footed and indecisive and getting driilled over the goal line. I hope Rankin's been working on this all off season if he's ever going to play wing or fullback again
