Does Tim Sheens Deserve A Contract Extension?

I actually thought he should have been punted at the end of 08\. But with the exceptional season we had, and the emergence of Dwyer, Fifita, Murdoch this year i think we are in for a hell of a ride in the next 2 to 3 seasons.

even given the failures of 06, 07, 08 and 09….Even then I would argure only 07 was a true failure in terms of a very poor final game when the final 8 was there to be taken..

2007, 2008 and 2009 were all failures. Sheens definately has to take some responsibity for us not making the finals those years. He was the one who kept selecting John Morris in the halves for most of those years. At the end of 2009 Moltzen should never have been moved from halfback. I normally say injuries can't be used as an excuse but in 2006 we had some really bad injuries so I give him the benefit of the doubt that year.

Think were all in violent agreement that Sheens deserves to build on what has undeniably been a successful season this year(top 4 finish after 4 seasons in the wilderness = success in anyone's definition, even the eels!)
Question is how long is our comittment after this years success ?
I thought after 05 when he recruited Ohara Galloway & the NZ Centre (name ??)we were building a destiny…not a disaster, which weve been 06-09.Dont wanna go thru that again
He's signed up for 2011,& Id give him an extension for 2012 max,& if we looked like consolidating on this year in mid- 2011 then Im supportvve. He'll have earned an extension as opposed to being gifted it on sentiment
But I dont wanna be stuck with groundhog day if things go awray next year & know nothing can change for the short=medium term

Whilst the team has had a sucessful season, I still look back to mid year when we were putting in aweful performances and Sheens selections and bench rotations were below average.

However he has done well to get this battered and broken side to a top 4 finish and only an inch away from a GF. My opinion has changed somewhat.

I say if we start the season 2011 off the way we finished 2010 then an upgrade is in order. I'd keep him under pressure though to maximise results.

A one year extension for mine. The optimist in me thinks he may have had the big picture in mind all year with those ridiculous bench selections/rotations, and he really has instilled something extra in the players through it.

The pessimist in me thinks it could still fall apart but better the devil we know for now.

I think we have finally come good and letting Sheens go now would be like starting all over again.
However having said that, if next season is poor he should go.

I would like to think we will make the finals next year and in that case yes he does deserve an extension.
1\. Because he is doing well with the team
And 2 because there is no one better avaliable

1 and particularly 2 are good points. There are no outstanding candidates out there, although Daniel Anderson could be considered a quality coach who just made a very bad employment decision.

I'd like to see a bona fide assistant coach come on board, with a view to taking over in 2-3 seasons. Who that may be, I just can't visualise. My only gripe with Sheens is an inconsistent and peculiar attitude towards recruitment. I give you the lack of a real quality prop as an example. Other than that and some misguided loyalty towards older players, he's possessed of an ability to develop loyalty, spirit and teamwork. Of course he's probably forgotten more about the game than most coaches would know

Luckily the Tigers have some excellent props coming up through the grades at the moment. I expect Aaron Woods to be the next prop to make his debut next year.

I have not been a Sheens admirer over a number of seasons but this season there has been a definate change in attitude and direction.I think Folkes has to be brought up as assistant coach next year as his influence was all over this team this year.I am very excited about next season with what i've seen and the prospects we have coming though to be honest we could have one of the best or the best pack going around in the next couple of seasons with a backline to sizzle and credit has to be given to Sheens on this it has been a slow and deliberate tactic of building the whole club and whether Wests want to merge with Balmain or not I feel that having a Premier league team as the Weststigers will be a huge asset and the missing link as the contracted players will be in one side and positions hopefully so I say give sheens at least a couple more seasons as his efforts are there to be seen and he should get the rewards.I have not been looking forward to a season more than next year for a long long time.

Sheensy himself might only want a one year extension like he did last year. If he only wants that then I say yeah, give it to him.
