Doing your bit for club unity

So I had an idea about making a gesture about club unity, which I'd like to encourage others to consider.

I only moved to Australia in 2006 so I'm not a traditional supporter of either side of the JV, but I moved to Balmain and that's how I got into the Tigers. The first jersey I bought was the Balmain foundation heritage one.

I like the 2014 jerseys and have been thinking about getting one, and I've decided I'm going to go for the predominantly black one to demonstrate that I'm a fan of the Wests Tigers. I'll be wearing that in the Inner West, at Leichhardt games and so on.

I want to encourage other fans to think about doing the same. If you're thinking of picking up a new season jersey, maybe contemplate getting the colour that isn't your 'traditional' allegiance but the other one. One day it would be phenomenal to see big clumps of black at Leichhardt or Orange at Campbelltown, maybe even under a banner expressing the reason for it. What a message that would send to the idiots on the board who continue to squabble about old loyalties while our club flounders.

That's a unique idea. We all seem to think that we should be adapting to the WESTS TIGERS- but maybe the oldies need to accept the other side of the joint venture and maybe that is the way to move forward.

Not sure if its right or wrong but certainly unique

A nice gesture.

As a former magpie, I love watching the old games with my former Balmain mates and learning the "history" of the club that I didn't know about. They love it too, as long as Harrigan and 89 don't get mentioned.

Im an old magpie and own three main pieces of merchandise, a Magpies retro WT jumper from 05, a mainly orange trackie jacket and a mainly orange training Tee…as well as some shorts caps etc

The colours never entered my mind until this thread. when the retro jumpers first came out in 2004 I was rapt in them, but they had that god awful Herbal World logo...swore Id get a Magpie WT retro as soon as they go a decent looking sponsor on it, so the following year at the fan day at Homebush after we flogged the dogs, I splashed out...I thought it was a great way to show my past AND present

The quickest way for either side of the JV to realise we are the Wests Tigers, not the Western Suburbs Magpies or the Balmain Tigers, is to have our heritage jumper become the first Wests Tigers one, not either side of the venture. It's the only way.

Yeah I'm an ex-Magpie fan from way back and I buy both the Balmain and the Wests jerseys. Got a whole wardrobe full of them now.Must have paid 2 or 3k by now in Wests Tigers clothing. Dont know why but I like the 10 year white jersey with the gold V the best. But they all get a wear from time to time. I didnt get to buy the TOC jersey from 2004 with the black, white and gold hoops. I'd like to get that one.

Geez, how can we expect the board to get their act together when we, the fans, still carry on with petty things around Maggie's or tigers?
I was a proud Balmain supporter hence the avatar ( notice I said was) but they are no more and WT is my team.
It's like a kid born of two parents, remember and be proud of your heritage but let the kid become their own person, their own entity and celebrate the here, now and future.

I think our 2000 jersey should be our away one in the years to come. It was simple but looked good.

Having the Balmain and Maggies jerseys as our heritage strips is still the way to go, not everybody likes it but it is our history whether people are happy about it or not. Shouldn't have to forget about the past just to cater for some supporters' smallmindedness though IMO.

I've always said that you haven't truly embraced the JV until you are happy to refer to the team as Wests on their own as a former Balmain fan, and for ex-Magpies fans, comfortable enough to refer to them solely as the Tigers.

Yep. Can see why it's a bit of a struggle for the die-hards of 30,40 or 50 years but in reality everybody should really be content that at least our original clubs are still in the NRL in some form. Would much rather that than go the way of the poor old Bears.
The board is still more guilty of this sort of garbage than the average supporter I reckon, they need a kick in the arse.

I reckon we should have no heritage jumper for a single team, there should just be one heritage jumper, striped with all 3 colours commemorating BOTH sides.

I might also buy a jersey this year, hope they aren't too much…. Does the member 10% discount work if there's a sale on the item already?

The 10 year jersey they wore in 2009 was my favourite too by a mile.

I was originally a Magpies fan as they were my old man's team, but we lived in the Inner West, so Balmain was always my second team. The merger was perfect. I wear the Balmain heritage jersey from the Centenary season. Why? It has a collar - I hate the modern day round neck jerseys!!

This is my view as well… Magpies/Balmain don,t exist to us anymore ..the only merchandise we all buy is Weststigers we don't live or dwell on the past ..good luck to the many that still do we are all different!

Im sure most of us do the same, but unfortunately there will always be someone willing to stir the pot and someone willing to take the bait.

Yet in your first sentence in your previous post on this topic you mentioned that you were an old Magpie. Can't see any post in this thread that brings up the Balmain/Wests thing in a hostile way TBH. Just because either side is mentioned it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing, it is after all where WT was formed from.
