Elijah Taylor Re-Signs till 2020..

King Siro - you really don't rate him do you. I think he is close to our best player. He just doesn't make the poor plays that other players make. I don't think it's a myth that he slows the play the ball down. I can see your point though with his size and ability to play 80 minutes.

I think we need 6 middle forwards next year and he should start at lock. The problem is at times I agree that playing him on the edge may be an option.

If I compare him to Woods I think he is a much better player. Woods gets more metres but Woods defence isn't as good and his ball playing isn't on the same level. ET also gets a better play the ball than Woods although Woods is about the worst at that in the whole comp.

Whenever i point out what i believe he lacks for us i have tried to say how i do rate him, but i guess i dont if im being totally honest with myself. Can he play, yes, but we need muscle. Muscle is what dominates rucks.

I am worried that last year he started like a house on fire, but by the end of the year he looked tired and struggling.

This year the last couple of games, he has not been as strong with a few missed tackles creeping in. Can ET play at his peak for an entire season, or does the effort take its toll?

If you are making approx. 50 tackles per game and playing with 5-9 other forwards who are not pulling their weight - you'd look tired by the end of the year as well.

Easy fix - get 5-9 other forwards who pull their weight and problem is solved.

Hopefully we are well on the way of helping Elijah out for 2018.

ET is a workhorse in the mould of Dallas Johnson, Liam Fulton. He is invaluable with a strong pack which, we have lacked. Packer, Matulino will change his role as they are rugged tacklers with size and muscle.
That being said we need a bigger backrower to go alongside in addition to McQueen.

He is not powerful but a real footy player with a big heart and great leader. He is not to blame with the forward pack around him it's not his role to be a metre eater and hit an in defence.

With good tactics that Cleary can bring apart from commitment that ET has plenty of he can be the another ball player setting up our forwards taking pressure off Brooks and Reynolds and along with McQueen taking pressure off oyr halves in defense hopefully our attack will improve so that we can start maxing teams out again in attack and then defense is easier.
Even when we make few errors and make meters opposition defenses don't seem to need to move up both sides of the ruck consistently enough atm so we don't wear teams out this is really our issues.

Taylor looking to lift team toughness

Wests Tigers forward Elijah Taylor says a lift in mentality is needed for the team this Saturday night when they take on the defending premiers Cronulla Sharks.

Having matched it with the high-flying Roosters for the opening 40 minutes of last Sunday’s match before collapsing to an eventual 40-18 defeat, Taylor said the team needed to continue to lift their intensity and attitude for the entire 80 minutes — knowing that the signs of success were certainly there for Coach Ivan Cleary’s side.

“I thought we started the game really well,” Taylor reflected on Sunday’s match.

“Our attitude in defence was good and our defensive pressure was good in forcing mistakes, but our defence in that third quarter after half-time was very poor.

“I think our attitude was poor too and something that we need to address.

“There was a lot of good in the game overall, but there was also a lot of things concerning about us in defence which we need to fix for a good Sharks team.

“It’s going to be a tough, tough encounter against Cronulla,” he continued.

“They’re missing some key players, but we have to focus on ourselves. We have to be selfless in defence and work hard for our teammates, and work hard off the ball.

“As a group, we can take the easy option rather than being selfless at times.

“The average fan or media won’t see those one percenters, but your teammates do, but doing those things really help get the result and that’ll take us a long way this weekend.”

With captain Aaron Woods unavailable due to State of Origin duties and vice-captain Chris Lawrence still battling a hamstring injury, Taylor and Tim Grant will be the only two members of the team’s leadership group taking the field on Saturday against the Sharks, and said the onus was on the senior players in the group to step up and lead.

“What those young guys are going through now is going to benefit next year and their careers overall, but I’m focusing on this year and not giving up on this year,” he said.

“If the boys see me or our senior players putting our heads down and giving up on this year, then they’re going to put their heads down too so it’s really important for the senior players in the squad to take the situation by the scruff of the neck and lead.

“[Being the captain] isn’t something I necessarily aspire to, but if it’s a job I’ve got to do then I’ve got to do it. If it’s a job my teammates want me to do, then I’ll do it.

“The reason I play the game of football is for my teammates, and I just want to work as hard as I can and help lead these young guys and help influence them to follow.”

Hopefully with Packer, Mats and McQueen, Elijah will have a more defined rile that works well for the team. Thats my issue with him, his current role looks undefined and innefective. Personally i hope he proves to be a huge asset next year.

80 minutes on an edge or 50 in the middle. I think that is a sustainable workload for ET. 80 in the middle is not working for the team or his personal performance imo. This year, however, I don't think we have a better option.

It will be interesting to see how Eisenhuth handles the step up. He's a big guy who's a workhorse too. Averaging 40-50 tackles and 120-150m a game at lock. Fairly mobile for a big guy too. Was a very highly rated junior until a number of injuries slowed him right down.

He's got a long way to go yet but he has a great attitude and work ethic and could potentially be a medium term replacement for ET. Twal is similar but a bit more prop than lock.

With Cleary making him captain this week, I'd say that makes it pretty clear who he wants as captain next year.

How do you figure that? He can't name Lawrence, he's injured and Its not like he can name Reynolds when he hasn't even arrived yet. He's the obvious choice for this week. Doesn't make him the obvious choice for next year.

NEW DEAL FOR TIGER TAYLOR

Wests Tigers lock Elijah Taylor is secretly off-contract.
When the Tigers announced the re-signing of Taylor in November last year, they trumpeted the deal as a two-year contract but it was actually a one year deal with an option in Taylor’s favour for a second season.

That option has not been taken up but Tigers fan needn’t stress.
Market Watch can reveal both Taylor and the club agreed on letting the option expire to instead negotiate a new long term deal.

The 27-year-old has found a home at the Tigers since joining in mid-2016 from Penrith.

It’s understood a new deal will be finalised by the end of the month.

As long as we are not paying him too much. Is a true professional and a hard working toiler, but not a game breaker or impact player.
Also see him as an edge player, we need more size in the middle

It's a tough one signing ET. I reckon he is a great player but I think to get the most out of him you play him at lock and let him ball play and defend. The problem is that our team needs impact up the middle and he isn't the right player for that.

So you can play him on the edge but you don't get as much out of him.

I reckon if we had two massive second rowers ET would be the perfect lock forward.
