He has shown that he deserves an extended contract, he will improve with a better pack also.

His role will change next year imo. He won't have to be a link man in attack with Tui giving us another dimension at 1, taking pressure off the halves. That's assuming he even stays at lock. In all his time under Cleary previous to this year, he's played 2nd row.

Agree, I wouldn't be surprised if he went back to 2nd row.

Listening to the interview today I'd like to know if he is staying. I hope he does. I reckon he is the sort of player that we need.

I am worried that last year he started like a house on fire, but by the end of the year he looked tired and struggling.
This year the last couple of games, he has not been as strong with a few missed tackles creeping in. Can ET play at his peak for an entire season, or does the effort take its toll?

At the time I took it as him being over putting in all the effort to watch another soft try let in but you may be right about his energy level. Is a shame that there is no-one else in the team that can slow down the ruck even as 3rd man in. If we had more that could do it, the opposition would not get fast play the balls when ET was the first defender. Woods either grabs or flops, Sue looks for big contact but does not think beyond that. About the only other defender that controls the ruck is Grant.

King Siro - you really don't rate him do you. I think he is close to our best player. He just doesn't make the poor plays that other players make. I don't think it's a myth that he slows the play the ball down. I can see your point though with his size and ability to play 80 minutes.
I think we need 6 middle forwards next year and he should start at lock. The problem is at times I agree that playing him on the edge may be an option.
If I compare him to Woods I think he is a much better player. Woods gets more metres but Woods defence isn't as good and his ball playing isn't on the same level. ET also gets a better play the ball than Woods although Woods is about the worst at that in the whole comp.

we desperately need a smart, experience forward. Matulino and Packer while great additions and great props aren't the smartest when it comes to controlling line speed and making defensive decisions. Lawrence, McQueen, Sue, McIllwrick- I don't really have much confidence on them either. ET should be our captain and our brains on the field.
I agree that he has a lack of impact on the field and isn't the biggest hitter. But he gets the legs, makes the tackles and plugs the gaps. In a team with no defensive liabilities, he'd be useless but he's the most important person in the defensive line for us until we get our defense sorted.

Your not going to like this but Lovett was easily our best defender yesterday and slows the ruck down better then anyone else in the squad. He makes first contact, holds them up around the ball the puts them down on their back. No one else does this. Totally innefective in attack though.
