End of season expectation

We lost 18 of our last 20 for a reason.

Reality is we are still coming last we are really 2 games behind.

Dragons/Bulldogs play each other today, Bulldogs & Cowboys have a bye in hand
We play Dragons next week (must win if we want to avoid the spoon).

All very true. After half a bottle of whisky I was planning how we would win 5 in a row...reality sinks in when you look at the ladder sober

You know we should think that way, I want the boys to think that way. Use this win to push a mid season run. The next part of our draw could be favorable for us if we lift.

The realistic side though is we are a few games behind just to get off the ladder let alone top 8/4.

Let’s get some consistency, belief and momentum behind us then maybe our position changes.

Last few years though have shown us we put in a great showing one week and can’t follow through. Let’s see if we are different this time round with all the changes made.

This week will determine a lot. Beating the premier's - not in SOO period - was a real turning point, triggered some self belief. While last week's game wasn't great it was important to win and they did enough to get it done.
The extra effort plays will pay dividends if they all put in, and what was looking like a disastrous season a few weeks back, may at the very least show some growth. Don't expect to win this one but need to compete, and then anything is possible.
 
Not going to get carried away but I think we can avoid the spoon. We've been thereabouts in most games and only the Broncos gave us a proper hiding.

Our forwards are keeping us in games, our halves need to get us over the line. I think this weekend against Souths will ground us all again unfortunately. Penrith were not at their best and the Dragons are in trouble as well, those wins papered over the cracks in our attack and I don't think our defence is good enough to hold Souths to two tries.

As long as effort is shown from 1-17 and they compete the whole game, I'll be OK with that. It'll show that the team is at least turning a corner in terms of attitude.
 
A win is a win but geez lady luck was on our side in both games.

Said start of the season we will be between 10-14th. Just cannot see us getting into the 8 especially giving every other team the headstart we have given them all unless we change our attacking formations.
 
We are fortunate that the comp is so tight that our deplorable start to the year hasn’t consigned us to the spoon just yet.
Dragons are sitting on the same miserable return as us at 2 & 7 plus a bye.
The next bracket up include the Dogs, Parra and Cowboys, effectively 2 wins ahead of us due to them having a bye in hand.
Newcastle has also had their bye, so they are actually behind these three.
You would expect the spooner comes out of this group of 6 teams.
Injuries will decide the recipient this year. Our pack went to mud without Bateman on Sunday. How will it go if we are missing two stars?
It’s going to go down to the wire I’d suggest.
 
all I want for the rest of the season is a reasonable win record. 15 games left, ideally we win 8 of those. the start of the season was disappointing but when you're rebuilding sometimes it takes a long time to get off the ground. if they can string a few wins together, cause a few upsets and build for the future, then I'm happy. there's no point hoping for miracles or expecting we make our way into the 8.

Considering the start we've had, bettering that by 2/3 games is an improvement, remember we're playing the long game here.

7 wins, 3 byes, finish on 20 points. Not great, but better than things looked at 0 -7, when people were Googling 'past history of winless seasons'.

Those in bold are our best chance in my opinion. After this week, the next 8 rounds are key. 4/5 wins from 7 games and our 2 byes could put us in a good position to climb off the bottom. Fingers crossed.

For reference, the Dragons draw for the rest of the year seems kinda rough and if they can't learn to win soon, they might be our saving grace. I also expect the Warriors, Knights, Manly and Dolphins to fall away as the season wears on.

No, you're right, anything less than finals is a failure. I believe we recruited well enough to dodge it. Unfortunately we kept underperforming halves and staked our year on them and they haven't done enough to be the difference between a close loss and a win.

I'm being realistic in my expectations though. We won't make the 8 and that's a recruitment/retention failure.
