End of year should free up some $$$$$

By the end of the year getting rid of Matt Bell who is 32 , Tuquiri will go for sure , Utai will be surplus to requirements , Iosefa is also of contract , Reddy is of contract and can't see him being resigned , Groat is of contract and can't see him being retained hasn't played bugger all in the last 2 years ,
So lets say these are just my estimates : Bell $150,000 , Tuquiri $200,000 , Utai $150,000 , Iosefa $120,000 ,
Reddy say $230,000 , Groat $130,000 , so in total we would be freeing up $980,000 and could get ourselves 2 top notch forwards there all my estimates in $$$$$ , thoughts please????
I mean let's face it only 2 of those players are featuring in our top squad at the moment being Bell and Reddy , and are replaceable with players in our 20's comp .
But the question is which top notch forwards are available in the open market this year ?
I understand that some of that money might need to be used to upgrade some young guns coming through as well but we are very skinny upfront in size , thoughts please?

I think Groat will be with us as a lot of work has gone into him, Reddy if he has a good year willbe with us also, dont think Reddy is on as much as you think.

Some of those dollar figures are highly inflated FT

You reckon ? Reddy must of been on at least $200,000 at Parra and was chased by 2 NRL clubs at the time aswell as Parra battling to resign him , that's why those figures were estimations …. maybe $150,000 Tuquiri , what players you think should be retained out of that lot ? for me none of them , would give Groat the second half of the year to prove that he's worthy of being resigned , the advantage for Groat is he still is young ....

Definitely not Groat, he's a good kid and destined for higher honours.

Agree really looked like he put the work in over the offseason.

He had a point with what he was saying, but like Wayne Bennet says, no forward is worth more than 300K..So i don't think overspending on a couple of players, should come at the expense of seasoned, NRL players who add some depth to the squad.

well my estimation i don't think is that far of i think, as the minimum nrl contract per year is $80,000

Yep and Iosefa and Groat would both be on it. Utai and tuqiri would be on less and Matt Bell well maybe

Iosefa 100 k maximum Tuqiri 150 k maximum Reddy coming off a major injury and no form 180 k maximum

Remember FT even if we replace these blokes with 80 k league minimum we have far less available than the figure you said

If you let 5 go and sign a big name you still need to replace the other four

We would be silly to let go of Bell IMHO. Looking at this years crop of NYC talent there is not a lot to get excited about in the forwards and for the money he should be on he is an utter bargain. Great attitude to boot which you need at any club

Tuqiri is paid per match i believe, hasn't played too many this year…

Also, the salary cap goes up by a few hundred k i believe. Should be 7mil by 2017 from memory?

Love it when people know what players are on what coin.

Id persist with Groat for depth

Was just making a guestimation based on the league minimum Ink ,was just stating if we are paying some of these blokes the money that FT suggested we are paying them overs imo

Definitely want to hold on to Groat. Showed some promise in his first few games. It's not uncommon for younger players to suffer a run of injuries. Think Benji no less. When Matty gets a run of football under his belt once more, his confidence will return and he should prosper once more.

Ink i wasn't saying i know ! they are estimations of there about's , that's why i asked for thoughts ?
I don't claim to know anything just general talk ,
those players would need to be replaced true , so don't know how much of a gain there is …. especially with Farrah being resigned on a good contract now , i'm assuming....

Wierdly I think we will be much better off for props next year then this even without any signings. I mean Woods will be a year older and probably have played origin. Galloway will be back on board. Buchannan will have a full season of FG, Groat will have more FG, AVA will have his first season behind him and Gavet will be back and prob have played mlore FG - So all of a sudden we have 2 experienced props, prob Bell still as well and 4 young blokes who are rookies this year but will have a decent amount of FG next year.

I liked what little I saw of Groat prior to his injury last year. I know he was as raw as all hell, but he's a keeper in my opinion. Frankly, if the youngsters mentioned above - Groat, Ava, Buchanan, Gavet, all continue to improve this year as I'm sure they will, then along with Woods and Galloway, then we should have sufficient front row depth next year.
The problem is this year - we need another front rower now.
Back row could be more of a problem next year. We really lack some dynamism from our 11 and 12\. BMM supplies some when he comes on as does Pettybourne and hopefully Thomson will do the same. So Bell may be surplus to requirements next year particularly if Sironen makes the move to the back half of the scrum.
